Year 8 Wellbeing (Keeping Safe Child Protection Curriculum)

Get ready to harness your Wellbeing - this unit includes a combination of the Wellbeing course designed to inspire you to be more awesome and the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum designed to prepare you for the more difficult situations you may face You’ll also look into real world issues like the 'Bystander Effect' and learn about inequity and equality in the world and relationships so you’re ready for some of the challenges ahead. This unit will allow you to get out of your own head and see the world slightly differently than you may expect. You’ll be investigating how flawed our perception of our world actually is, how gratitude can unlock your inner super powers and the strength of failure for making you a success

Italian Year 8: You Know You Love It

You loved Italian last year, love it again in Year 8 This year, Italian opens a pathway to a new language to learn a unique lifelong skill and introduce you to new world of language learning. This unit teaches language skills and grammar along with speaking and comprehending Italian. ICT 3: Let’s Go Lego!

Are you someone who likes to use your imagination and build? Do you enjoy thinking creatively, problem solving, working with a team and making your own unique constructions? Then 'Let’s Go Lego!' is for you. You will expand your lego skills, whether you are a first timer or competent builder, by building 2D and 3D models, using technic parts and taking part in a cumulative building project that showcases your skills 'Let’s Go Lego!' is your way to build your dream for a lifetime of construction creativity

Visual Art 1: Slay it With Clay

During this fun and hands-on sculpture unit, we will provide you with the opportunity to develop a solid foundation in 3dimensional art through exploring the world of clay and ceramics. You will engage in creative projects, forming functional or sculptural pieces, and developing your skills, style, and understanding of ceramics This course is open to all and will result in the completion of an original clay artwork, perfect for a gift or to brighten up your room

Visual Art 2: Colour Your World (2D)

Whether you are a budding artist or someone who claims you can’t draw, it’s really all about practice. We can help you gain confidence through tasks involving a variety of drawing, painting, and printmaking techniques It won’t take long to see an improvement in your observational and technical skills, as you begin to understand ways that artists can create mood and meaning in their artwork You will then be given the opportunity to create and take-home your own original artwork worth framing.

Media 1: The Hollywood Effect (Filmmaking)

Have you ever wondered how they make Hollywood action films? If you love Marvel movies, innovative camera work and crazy action sequences then this is the course for you! Over thirteen explosive weeks, you will learn how to shoot like the pros, create special effects that will blow minds and edit sequences that will make Tom Cruise proud Whether you love to be in front of the camera, or prefer a behind the scenes role, there is something for everyone as you study the action film genre, produce, and edit your own short action sequences and create an action YouTube special.

Media 2: The Modern Photographer (Photography)

Have you ever scrolled through TikTok and seen amazing photography trends? Have you ever looked at a cool photograph on Instagram and questioned how have they done that? Well, here is the course for you. In the age of social media, its often hard to stand out when there are thousands of images that fill your screen every day. In this course you will learn how to create dynamic and creative images that will stand out from the crowd You will advance through basic camera settings to learn more in depth skills, while also exploring the endless possibilities of Photoshop. Through a series of photoshoots you will explore fashion photography, art photography, long exposure photography and develop your own portfolio that explores the concept of the modern photographer.

Drama 1: Making Things Up Again

There is no need for scripts or line learning in this unit that is all about improvisation. We will cover the essentials for effective impro, a vital skill in all actors’ toolkits After covering the basics, we will jump into short form games that we will use in an ‘impro-sports’ competition Later in the unit we will look at longer improvisation where larger, more complex scenarios can be explored including devised performance. This unit is for anyone who wants to make things up, give things a go and enjoys being in control of their own performances!

Drama 2: Stealing the Spotlight

Have you ever dreamed of being under the stage lights or in front of a camera in a movie? This unit is all about making performances from scripts from both stage and screen. You will learn how to create a character, how to make acting choices to bring this character to life and how we can direct scenes to create dynamic, engaging and entertaining performances for an audience This unit is for anyone who likes the security of a script and idea that is already constructed and loves the idea of exploring different ways of performing

Dance 1: The Evolution of Hip-hop

A course designed for any dance ability and experience who are keen to learn some groovy hip hop moves and listen to some banger tunes You will be thrown into a mix of old school and traditional as well as new and upcoming hip-hop choreography and have the chance to create your own routines to music you love. Come and have a boogie in a supportive, exciting and fun environment. Open to all.

Dance 2: Broadway to West End

You will learn the fundamentals of Musical Theatre as you develop your skills across a number of stagecraft, performance and technical production areas. You will explore the rich history of Musical Theatre, looking at classics such as Fame, Chorus Line, Chicago, Grease, Hairspray & many more. Focusing mostly on choreography and dance, you will have the opportunity to prepare and perform your own creations and adaptations Open to all

Music 1: Tech Composition

Do you love making your own music by dragging and dropping loops? In this course students create their own music using music software such as SoundTrap for various projects including music podcasts, video games, and drone videos Creative fun with this one!

Music 2: Rock School

Have you ever dreamed of being part of a band? Whether you already play an instrument or have always wanted to learn, this course is for you! It's designed for students interested in picking up or improving their skills on the guitar, drums, vocals, and even concert band instruments. Plus, you'll develop essential reading and listening skills to deepen your understanding of music. Come and join the band.

In Fantastic Food you will build on basic skills to make a variety of sweet and savoury dishes We will explore food models that help us make better food choices for a balanced diet as well as look at how to cook healthy food snacks. In this unit you will learn how to use skills to create a variety of dishes which you can also make at home.

Food 2: Aussie Bites

Find out what influences our food choices and makes the food we eat Australian Sharpen your practical skills to cook a variety of sweet and savoury Australian dishes that are influenced by our multicultural society You will learn the importance of making healthy food choices by cooking fabulous recipes from our Aussie bites collection.

Textiles 1: Sew Fantastic

Get ready to unleash your creativity in our Textiles course! This course is all about diving into the world of sewing and design. You’ll master the basics of using a sewing machine and overlocker, and learn essential design skills to create a variety of amazing textile products. Whether it’s custom clothing, unique accessories, or something else, you’ll have the chance to bring your ideas to life Join us and turn your creative vision into reality!

Join us for a vibrant 13-week journey into the world of fabric and fashion! Seton’s laser cutter is ready for you! Learn how to create 2D drawings in Adobe Illustrator and use these to laser cut acrylic designs to make a personalised keychain You will then look at how to take that design 3D! Learn some 3D modelling software to create your designs as virtual models that can be 3D printed.

This program aims to start the process of transitioning you from school to work. You will experience possible work and career pathways as you begin to make decisions about what your work future might hold. The program incorporates many exciting resources in an interactive online space. The Work-Ready modules will open up a world of job and career options and help you gain the skills and attitudes required for workplace success, as well as teaching you how to prepare for a job application and interview in the future

Italian 1: Love Italian Again

Continue or re-start your much loved Italian pathway Become an adventurer with unique skills as a language learner and learn about a new culture. For those considering an ATAR pathway, Italian offers a much loved and unique ATAR experience which sits in a unique position as a foreign language. Media 1: Edit the Beat

Do you love blockbuster film and music? Have you ever wondered how they get the WOW factor into music videos? All will be revealed in this unit as you edit highlights of your favourite movie to the beat of your favourite song. Learning skills such as cutting to the beat, mirroring images and manipulating time to rev up and slow down your video, you will edit together movie highlights in Adobe Premiere and add special effects in Adobe After Effects With some skill development in videography, you will then produce and edit your own music video. This unit is also perfect for those who may be camera shy – music videos don’t need ‘actors’. They can be abstract, scenic, or even animated!

Media 2: Inspire Me

For all the photography buffs, this unit sharpens your photographic skills and encourages you to push the boundaries of creativity to produce some really inspired imagery. You will examine the work of some top photographers, particularly those who rocket to fame on Instagram and Tik Tok by showing the ‘how to’ of their craft Inspired by their images, you will learn how to get the camera out of automatic and truly take creative control You will then explore some photoshop techniques to really bring your imagery alive

Visual Art 1: Expressive Art (2D)

This course has something for everyone, whether you already take your art seriously or just enjoy the relaxed and social atmosphere of working in an art studio. You will gain a feel for the way artists bring their ideas to life through experimentation and skill-building using a range of drawing, painting, and printmaking techniques Previous experience is not required as we guide you through planning a design which you will then transform into a resolved artwork that expresses your own unique perspective.

Visual Art 2: Creative Clay (3D)

During this engaging and practical course, you will design and create original 3-dimensional artworks while learning new techniques and developing your clay handbuilding skills The course aims to deepen your understanding of ceramics as an expressive medium while encouraging you to embrace experimentation, innovation, and your own unique artistic vision. Previous experience working with clay is not required for you to complete a successful sculpture which can be proudly displayed at home

Are you interested in the world of theatre and how the theatre works but don’t want to be in the spotlight? This unit explores all things technical in theatre. From lighting and sound design, projections, special effect wound makeup, costumes, scenery and props A handson, creative and exciting look into what it takes to make theatre magic

Drama 3: Playing in Performance

It’s time to rethink the way we think about theatre and drama. Contemporary performance is all about challenging styles and creating work that is important to you as a theatre maker This unit is about reworking our understanding of stage performance and directing actors This unit is for students who are looking to extend their drama knowledge and work towards a public performance opportunity.

Music 1: Jam Session

Get ready to immerse yourself in the world of music and experience the thrill of playing in a dynamic ensemble or band Jam Session is a practical music course designed for students who are eager to develop their instrumental skills and unleash their creativity through collaborative musical expression. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced musician, this course offers a supportive and stimulating environment to enhance your playing abilities and expand your repertoire

Music 2: Music Technology

Ready to take your music skills to the next level? In this course, you'll dive deep into the world of music tech, remixing your favourite tracks, and creating epic soundtracks for cool projects You'll learn all about editing, software tools, and how to use them to bring your ideas to life If you play an instrument, you’ll also get the chance to record yourself and arrange your own music like a pro! If you love music and are into tech, this is the course for you. Get ready to unleash your creativity and make some serious beats!

Dance 1: Street Dance

If you enjoyed Evolution of Hip Hop, then this course is for you. Street Dance is catered for all dance levels and abilities with an emphasis on challenging oneself, training and conditioning the body, team work and stepping out of your comfort zone. It will continue to develop a range of hip-hop moves (both new and old school) and students have the chance to create and choreograph a routine to show off their skills and style in dance

Dance 2: Accelerated - Style

Accelerated dance courses are designed for advanced dancers who have had experience in technical dance or have been a part of the Seton Specialist program in Year 7 and 8 It is recommended to select both accelerated courses for the opportunity to perform in the Annual Dance Showcase and to be best prepared for the Certificate II course in Year 10 Style - has an emphasis on learning choreography and repertoire across multiple genre’s both modern and traditional including Jazz, Contemporary, Street, Broadway and more.

Dance 3: Accelerated - Create

Accelerated dance courses are designed for advanced dancers who have had experience in technical dance or have been a part of the Seton Specialist program in Year 7 and 8 It is recommended to select both accelerated courses for the opportunity to perform in the Annual Dance Showcase and to be best prepared for Certificate II course in Year 10. Create - has an emphasis on devising and developing own choreography works and designing technical elements for production

Food 1: International Foods

In this unit students will explore international foods that influence our food choices. They will take an exciting trip around the world using their taste buds. Students will learn about staple foods from around the world and recreate traditional dishes They will research packaging options and explore how they can reduce their own use of packaging and reduce their food waste.

Food 2: Pastries and Staple Foods

This unit will take you on a journey through the world of pastry and staple foods Every culture in the world has its staple food and uses to pastry in a variety of dishes. Students will learn about staple foods from around the world and recreate these dishes Students will learn about traditional pastry making and how it is used in a variety of dishes

Textiles 1: In the Hood

This unit will see students meet with current teen fashion trends students will design and machine sew a hoodie which will bear the mark of their own fashion logo Anyone who enjoys fashion, design and keeping up with current trend will love this unit. At the completion of of this project students will have an option to choose an additional project - there is no limit to their imagination!

Textiles 2: Sew Crafty

Get ready to dive into the world of denim with “Sew Crafty”! This hands-on course is all about unleashing your creativity while working with one of the coolest fabrics around You’ll have the chance to design and create your own denim items using sewing machines and other specialist equipment. In “Sew Crafty,” you’ll explore how denim has evolved from its historical roots to become a modern fashion staple You’ll also discover how to make your own stylish and sustainable denim creations, learning essential sewing techniques along the way Whether you’re making unique accessories or other custom items, this course is your chance to get creative with denim and develop your sewing skills. Get ready to roll up your sleeves and bring your denim designs to life!

Dimensional Design (3D design): Light Up

Seton’s brand new laser cutter is ready to use! If you like designing awesome things and learning new software programs then this is the class for you In this unit you will use Design Thinking to come up with an innovative lamp design You will learn how to use Adobe Illustrator to draw 2D designs that can be engraved and cut into acrylic and timber, then use LED lights to create your own lamp. After this you will take your design 3D by looking at some 3D modelling software. Learn how to create 3D virtual models of your designs that can be 3D printed into almost any material you can think of

STEM

Complete projects that challenge your problem-solving ability and find innovative solutions to problems Develop your critical thinking and work in groups to define, invent, create and test creations or processes that provide ways to resolve real world problems Remember there is never just one solution to a problem! Students who receive an ‘A’ grade in either Mathematics or Science in Semester 1 Year 8 are eligible to select Year 9 STEM as an Elective.
