New York's Fairy Vibe Mother, DJ Miss Milan, is a female emcee and DJ to Grammy nominated rap star, Saweetie and TDE's newest signee, Doechii. Born in Brooklyn, but raised in Queens, Milan is the epitome of DJ's who people inspire to follow their dreams. Milan recently did her first spin for Parkwood Entertainment's live listening event for Beyonce's album, Renaissance, in Times Square. Milan was also apart of Doechii's set at the MTV VMA for best performance of 2022. We can say that the New York native has accomplishments under her belt and it is not over yet! Read the exclusive interview we had about her 2022 year thus far.
You had recently had the opportunity to DJ for Pandora and Parkwood Renaissance in Times Square during the weekend of her release, what was your reaction when you had gotten the call?
My reaction was very emotional. I was smiling to the point where I started crying. It was one of my dreams to work in the same room as Queen Bey. Funny story is where I had to choose, in which, I had to do that or doing a show with my artist Doechii, who I Dj now. We were scheduled to go to LA to do this festival and the day before my manager had sent me a screenshot via text of the email she had gotten while going to my upcoming R&B showcase. I didn’t read the message until I finally settled in Two days before that actual event, I had everything set and ready and I hate to disappoint people This is a hard decision I truly have to make for my life “I didn’t want to disappoint Doechii but I wanted to do this opportunity with Parkwood/Beyonce ” I told my manager “Let’s Do It!” I spoke with Doechii about how I made the decision with Pandora for Beyonce and Doechii said “You gotta DO IT!” I took the opportunity and had a day to prepare I am doing what I am dreaming about doing and creating the vibe as well for Black Music Month, and this is what got me on the radar to do the Parkwood/Pandora event for Renaissance. The Queen be watching everything! *YASSSS* Renaissance is considered my top three albums. Good Morning America showed a clip of me DJing the event as well.
I had discovered when you had done the Mantra of Beyoncé and since then been listening to each morning to start my day, what is your most favorite Beyoncé song to get you through the day and why?
Thank you so much! When I did that Mantra Music, I had the intention of wanting to listen for myself and have something positive to say by having an impact on what she is saying. It was for a friend’s event and she created the piece to help motivate and inspire other people for the event and then released it to the public. Also, we are putting more out soon.
My favorite song from Beyonce of all time is "Me, Myself and I " THE iconic hair and bob! Oh my gosh I wanted to have the hairstyle The words and vocals to the song It has some true meaning to it by having yourself at the end of the day It was a part of her breakout song and I can sing it front to back
Photographer Credit: Sarah FlemingHow did you get the name DJ Miss Milan? How did you start becoming a DJ?
I started DJing back in 2017. Between 2018 and 2019, I had started hustling by starting from the ground up. I DJ’d for 5 6 hours plus and only got $150 at that time. I didn’t know my worth as well All the steps that I have taken I have learned and won’t take it for granted and by being a little smarter. I always had love for music I still want to do something along the lines of music and performance The Beyonce of DJ’s!
As being a dj for Doechii and Saweetie, what can you say is your most highlighted moment?
It was only a little under a year working with Saweetie that we got to perform on the BET Awards pre show stage in 2019.
For Doechii, it was our recent MTV VMA nominations They had a new category called PUSH Performance We did the performance to track “PERSUASIVE” and was a part of the MTV VMA nominated performance.
Out of all the mixes you have done, what can you say is your favorite one thus far and why?
It would be My Bedroom Diaries. I had put a lot of thought and effort into at the top of my DJ career as it being two to three years old. I am very meticulous and detailed with the things I do, especially either in person or virtually I take my mixes to where I introduce artists, as well as, me being an r&b lover. I will continue on with the series very soon!

One word that describes my little brother Shug is MOTIVATOR. He kept the team motivated and always wanted us to work no matter what.

The song we recorded is called "Automatic" and "Bossanova."
A memory of Shug is actually seeing music executives gravitate towards him because of the hard work he put in and to never forget that.
As looking back the greatness and accomplishments of her son, Romie, have had with his career, Quintella, Big Shugg's mother, represents his son to the fullest by promoting all unreleased songs that hasn't been released yet. 2023 will be the year for the Chicago native and how much he will be an impact with the story and pain to his music. Read more about her son ' s legacy and how 2023 will be the year of Big Shugg!
You know we often speak about our passions in life but it’s rare for people to pursue their dreams until they see someone else pursuing his or her dreams. For me, Romie’s musical career has encouraged me to focus on my talents, skills and aspirations He was so patient, loyal, trusting, and dedicated to the musical profession It wasn’t a job for him, it was his calling.
What did you want your son’s legacy in music to have an effect on his fans?
I would like his fans to understand that SRT Big Shugg’s music is his legacy There was not a day where he was not recording, engineering, collaborating, editing his music or discussing the business component of music. His day began and ended with music.
Most of my favorite moments are times when SRT Big Shugg achieved a major milestone or when we were enjoying family, like when he learned to walk or his first word “Mom.” Then there was the time he made the honor roll in elementary school, my God he was so proud, he couldn’t wait to share his report card. I was elated when he took on the middle school bus bully. This guy was a year older and about 100 pounds heavier, but he met his match when he tried to attack Romie. I’ll just say, it ended with Romie betting him with his belt. Let’s not forget when would play Monopoly, or should I call it Rom Monopoly because he soon became the “goat” of the game I was proud when he graduated from High School a year early and enlisted in the U. S. Army as a Supply Specialist. I was super proud when he enrolled in Chicago State University. I think his dad’s favorite moment was when Romie bet him in their final game of chess. I recall Romie saying to me, “Mom, did dad tell you I bet him in chess?” My spirit danced when he said, “He had to leave my house because he could never be a man living in my basement.” Also, it warmed my heart to hear him talk about his music, the collaborations with others, the studio time he was putting in, that boy would lock himself in the studio. Again, there were so many favorite moments we shared with our precious son.
What song(s) do you play back the most?
I actually listen to all his music weekly. My favorite songs that are released: "DaRaq" (produced by Chase Davis), "Pride" (produced by 1bula), Brinks "Truck" (produced by Ami Music), "Lil Nigga" (featuring MP), "Fraud Food" (featuring Rio Da Young OG), "Brick Walker" and "Impatient," "Go" (featuring Bro Code), "Shot Caller," and "If Tonight is Your Night" (SRT Kazzy & SRT Big Shugg). The unreleased song I love is "Automatic" (featuring Finessecobar.)
When can we expect new music?
In remembrance of him, we are releasing his ‘Resurrection’ EP in 2023.
With the anniversary date, what can you say what this year will bring?
With Shrug’s Remembrance Day vesting approaching, our family would like his fans to know there is still more authentic music, innovative videos, genuine articles to come. Prior to his transition, SRT Big Shugg completed over 200 rap songs.
