Located at 351 McGill Street, The Trader is a boutique hotel that embodies the essence of Montreal’s rich fur trading history located in Canada
Montreal’s international district describes McGill Street as the “link between the strategic sectors of the Old Port and Old Montreal ” Old Montreal is a vibrant area that seamlessly bridges the city’s past and present The district also offers a taste of Montreal’s contemporary cultural standing from arts, markets, historical landmarks, museums, and architectural finds
Old Port is a historic port located adjacent to Old Montreal that stretches over 1 2mi along the Saint Lawrence River The Old Port was used as early as 1611 when French Fur Traders took advantage of it as a trading post
The first floor consists of materials that embody the history of Old Port Montreal Natural stone, warm woods, brass and rich furs encapsulate the space to become a warm and inviting lobby and lounge
Elements of the design memorialize the natural creation and historical construction of Old Montreal The Embankment Cafe represents the fortification against St Lawrence River the beginning of the 18th century, and the brass inlayed floor derives from topographical exploration of Montreal itself, which translates to the ceiling design above
The Old Port Restaurant and bar becomes lively with remnants of port elements fashioned as decal while the use of a seaside shell floor tile, a waved plaster ceiling, and sail wall panels decorate the surroundings
The gallery entices people to the rich historical paintings and furs of the Montreal Fur Trade, where stools and drink tables are placed for their leisure
NYSID FALL 2021
The Trader’s consideration of its location and story of Montreal make it a great social hub Its public areas like the Embankment Café, Old Port Restaurant, Fur Trade Art Gallery, and Library allow visitors to surround themselves in a historical experience within the modern world
The Trader uses rich woods, brass, velvets and fur together with light woods, bright tiles, and natural stones to define the essence of Old Montreal and Old Port. The use of these materials along with combined design characteristics of these districts are embodied throughout every level of The Trader, giving it its distinct style
To immerse themselves even further into the experience, guests have the chance to stay in the guest rooms that take up floors 3 through 9.
The tenth-floor invites guests into a space meant for enriching their knowledge whether it be a quiet place to read, study, or take conference meetings An Embankment bar meets their needs to enjoy food and drinks without having to go to the lower levels Stone, artisan tiles, and various woods are used to surround them in a comfortable setting to enjoy reading from the small library or enjoy the scenes of Montreal

Images of Old McGill Street peak through columns that line the corridor when on the guest room floors. From a more diluted entryway to an enriched guest room, the design leads guests throughout history as they make their way into their rooms
The guest rooms are comprised of enwrapped and aligned elements containing the storage space, beds, fireplace, and lounge space A custom bar/kitchenette unit accompanies each room providing a luxurious opportunity for a vanity or extra storage for the guest
The warm and bright materials make the space comfortable, especially with the fireplace contributing as such a strong central element The headboard fur, antique metals and wood in combination with the seaside port materials in the bathroom encapsulate the essence of what is The Trader

NYU had selected a five-story loft building in NoHo, a historical neighborhood located in lower Manhattan, to convert into a new School of Fine Arts
For neighborhood connectivity, public programming was to be made apparent especially on the ground floor and rooftop. The university had asked the designer to create a building that is not only functional but has a distinct character or visual concept that will help establish the image of the school The designer was to also help create the philosophical concept of an arts education where the design of the new facility reflected the philosophy or educational policy of the school
The intent of the design in this project is to express the essence of nature in this modern school to provide a creative and sustainable environment for the students Biophilic design, use of natural materials, and environmental principles will establish a healthy atmosphere for learning and increase productivity

UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO SUMMER 2019
Cen Cinai is a government funded childcare facility that specializes in care for children of single working mothers located in Los Llanos, Costa Rica The client was at maximum capacity and with teamwork and collaboration as a group of four, we worked past the language barrier and helped achieve their goals of expansion and sustainable practices
By implementing design solutions and construction suggestions, it was hoped to keep the daily functions and activities of the daycare operating throughout the whole process It was also imperative that the constraints of the old site were taken care of Some aspects of the design that the client wished for were more classroom spaces and interchangeable rooms
To answer the landscape constraints, it was important to implement an ADA accessible path, vegetation planters, a new entrance hub, and new play spaces Some solutions for this was a learning garden and a new play area east of the building The colored blocks show constraint solutions with locations of where the DESIGN BUILD projects are in respect to the site
Costa Rica was undeniably an incredible experience
Their efforts on becoming a sustainable country was inspirational and something special to be a part of Culture was a big part of the trip and being immersed within it allowed me to take back valuable ideals in not only design but for everyday life
One of the best moments was exploring the country and seeing them reuse certain materials for various creative elements, (i e tires for outdoor seating, painted galvanized metal for the art school, etc ) It was vital for us as the design group, and in respect for the community, to be able to find and use local resources and materials in order to design each project The DESIGN BUILD is a good remembrance of that
