MEMBERSHIP Family Memberships Family memberships are all-inclusive only and includes use of BOTH the SRC’s and the SAQ for the year. The “family plan” is good for up to four family members (dependents can only be between the ages of 16 and 23 to use this plan). Patrons must still also observe Family Hours (see page 1 for a description of Family Hours) during academic sessions. Family members added can only be spouses or children. LOCKERS Locker Rental The SRC-North, SRC-South and the Student Aquatic Center each have locker rooms for both men and women. Lockers are available to rent by semester. Full or half lockers are available. NOTE – the Department of Recreation Services is NOT responsible for personal items stored in lockers. Items left in lockers after the rental period will be removed and kept within the department for 30 days. Afterward, all contents will be discarded. No personal locks are permitted on any University-owned locker. Complimentary towel service is included with the purchase of a semester locker rental. Day Lockers Available Patrons who do not want to rent a locker are encouraged to use our day locker service for free. You may check out a lock to use an available locker within each locker room to store personal items. To use this service, give your ID to a staff member at the Operation Center and you will receive a combination lock. Day lockers are available for only the day they are used and personal items must be removed from all day lockers at the end of the business day. Items left in lockers will be removed and discarded.

Towel Service There are two types of towels provided to patrons using recreation facilities. A shower towel is available as well as a fitness towel. Complimentary towel service is INCLUDED with any semester locker rental. Upon the purchase of a semester locker, you will receive a towel card. This card will permit you to exchange a soiled towel for a clean one each time you use the SRC. You may also use a fitness towel and exchange in the same manner as a shower towel. This service is also available for purchase without the rental of a locker.


POLICIES Identification Card Requirement It is required that all Southeast students or members prove their membership by presenting a valid Redhawks ID card upon entering either SRC. Patrons will not be permitted to use the SRC’s without possessing a valid Redhawks ID card. All patrons purchasing a membership to the SRC’s or the Student Aquatic Center are required to have a Redhawks ID made for them. The cost is $10/ID card. If cards are lost or damaged, a replacement can be made for $15. Photos are taken in the main office (SRC-North, Room 101). All guests are required to leave a photo ID at the desk while using the facility and must complete a Daily Pass Registration Form available at the Operation Center in each facility. Any non-member may “selfsponsor” themselves with the required guest fee and proper identification. Parents/legal guardians are required to register children age 17 and younger (not in effect for special events). Patrons are encouraged to contact our office if they have a guest that will be here for an extended stay. Equipment Towel services, locker services and equipment check-out are available at the Operation Center within each SRC. To obtain these services, a student or member must present a valid ID. The ID will be retained at the Operation Center in exchange for the equipment being used. Should items be lost under your care, the member or person responsible will be billed a replacement cost plus an administrative fee to replace the missing item. Some items, such as racquetball racquets, require a small fee for checkout. Racquetballs can be purchased at the Operation Center as well. Accidents and Injuries Participation in programs and services offered by Recreation Services is voluntary; individuals assume responsibility for their own health and safety. Individuals who intend to participate in vigorous activities should, for their own protection, have a physical examination to determine if they are physically able to participate. Medical insurance is strongly recommended. Alcohol and Tobacco Policy All Southeast recreation facilities are non-smoking, no tobacco facilities. No alcohol is permitted in recreation facilities or on fields. Food and Drink Food and drinks are permitted in the lobby area only, unless approved for special events or occasions. Only water is permitted in fitness room areas.

Lifeguard Training Course Prerequisites: - 15 years of age. - 300-yard swim - Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound brick, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds. - Tread water for 2 minutes. AFAA is one of the leading fitness certification organizations that are well recognized in the United States. This workshop and certification is a first step to start your career in fitness! This workshop reviews AFAA’s Basic Exercise Standards and Guidelines, anatomy, exercise science, exercise evaluation and exam criteria. The practical and written exams will be administered at the end of the day. This workshop is for those who are interested in becoming a certified group fitness instructor.

GROUP FITNESS CLASS DESCRIPTIONS Abs & Arms:

A challenging 30-minute core class that also targets the upper body muscles – especially trouble areas!

Agility, Balance, & Coordination (ABC)

This class will challenge you through use of agilities and dynamic movements, focusing on balance and coordination. Fun, challenging workouts that are great for everybody!

Aqua Dance Join us in the pool as we mambo and cha-cha to an eclectic mix of oldies, latin, and rock and roll. It’s easy to learn, easy on the joints, and good for the heart and spirit!

Boot Camp Transform your body with high intensity cardio, strength, core training, drills and more! New exercises each week will shock your muscles and boost your results. Great for all levels - be prepared to sweat!

Boot Camp Remix This exciting and new class will take you out of the normal gym setting and keep you full of adventures while you get a great workout around campus. Be ready for anything as your workout is always changing to keep your muscles working! Workouts may change due to weather conditions.

Body Sculpt This total body workout improves muscular strength, endurance, tone, and flexibility with BOSU Balance Trainer or Gliding. This class may also include body bars, dumbbells, resistance tubing, med balls, and stability balls for a fun and varied toning workout!

Butts & Guts A challenging 30-minute core class that also targets the lower body muscles – especially trouble areas such as the hips and thighs as well as the core!

Cardio Blast

The ultimate calorie burn! Anything goes in this fun class of kickboxing, step, agility training and lots of fun! Finish up with strengthening your abdominals and creating a strong core.

Cardio Kick & Tone Try this new class! It will take a spin-off of kickboxing while adding toning movements to target the full body. This class offers a great cardio workout also as you go through intervals of kickboxing. Get a full body workout in only 45 minutes!

Circuit Training This class will get your heart and muscle working! A full body workout will be performed in stations to keep you moving.


GROUP FITNESS CLASS DESCRIPTIONS Crunch-Less Abs

Tired of traditional crunches? Try this crunch-less class! Learn challenging new ways to strengthen all the muscles of your core and improve overall core stability.

Cycle Fit In this indoor cycling fitness class, an instructor will guide you through imaginative terrains with invigorating music and visualization for 40 minutes. Whatever your fitness level may be, you can increase your strength and improve your overall fitness. Don’t forget to bring your towel and water bottle! This class is limited to 14 participants.

Instructor’s Choice Want to try something new each time? Come to this class for the random pick of the week. Never get bored with the same workout and same equipment!

Kickboxing This class uses punches, kicks, and muscle conditioning for an awesome cardio workout! This class may include cardio kickboxing combos, drills, stations, and shorter segments for toning, abs, and flexibility.

Lunch Express Series (Yoga, Pilates, Water Fitness, Core Plus & Core Strength) These classes are for busy people. In 30 minutes during lunch time, get your workout in, release some stress and feel better! Lunch Express Classes are free for Student, Faculty and Staff. For Lunch Express Water Fitness class, those without SRC membership must sign in at the Operation Center to access the facility.

PILOXING Come try the latest trend! PILOXING blends the muscle sculpting of standing Pilates, the strengthening and cardio of boxing and the fun of dance into a high energy interval workout.

Toning & Core Core Plus

Try this half hour workout focusing on abdominals and back ‘plus’ a different body region changing each week teaching you new ways to strengthen your body.

Core Strength This focused class will strengthen your abdominals and lower back muscles to create a strong and centered core. Strong core muscles are essential for daily physical movements and activities.

A full body workout toning your body and strengthening core while teaching you a new great ways to stay in shape this semester with lots of different equipment.

Zumba The Zumba program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easyto-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program. Experience an absolute blast in 45 minutes of calorieburning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate for life!

All participants must sign in PRIOR TO participating in class activities. Entry after the first 5 minutes or the warm-up segment is NOT RECOMMENDED. All participants must present a VALID GROUP FITNESS PASS to attend a group fitness class except Lunch Express classes. • All participants must have an SRC membership to attend a group fitness class except Lunch Express classes. • Lunch Express classes do not require participants to have a SRC membership or a valid Group Fitness pass. Those without a SRC membership, however, are REQUIRED to sign in at the Operation Center to access the facility. • Group Fitness Semester Passes are NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERABLE and only valid for the current semester. • Classes with TWO OR LESS PARTICIPANTS are subject to cancellation. • Classes that get cancelled due to low attendance for three consecutive weeks will be removed from the schedule.

ABOUT YOUR GROUP FITNESS INSTRU Our group fitness instructors are either certified with nationally recognized fitness organizations such as Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), American Council on Exercise (ACE), and American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or in the process of obtaining a certification. Most of our group fitness instructors are Southeast students who are in exercise science or health promotion majors.

Come improve your mental and physical well-being, increase flexibility, and strengthen muscles with this 30-minute workout. This class uses controlled movements in the form of mat exercises to tone and strengthen the body. No prior registration is required. This program is walk-in basis.

Come enjoy this 30-minute invigorating and relaxing workout. Bring your friends and co-workers to refresh your body and mind. Please come in loose fitting clothing that allows movements. Additionally, please bring your own yoga mat (if available) and a belt/old tie that can be used as a strap. No prior registration is required. This program is walk-in basis.

MASSAGE THERAPY

Come and enjoy relaxing massage and relieve your stress and tension in your body. Our massage therapist will tailor to your personal needs. From stress relief to injury recovery, take advantage of high quality service at very reasonable price! About Your Therapist Lisa Huffman, a Licensed Massage Therapist, received her training at Metro Business College in Cape Girardeau, MO. She is trained in Swedish massage, chair massage, trigger point work, and prenatal massage. NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING

This service provides counseling and guidance for your nutritional goal such as weight loss, optimal performance and disease prevention. Gain the basic knowledge and skills needed to live a healthy lifestyle! Our registered dietitian will help and guide you. About Your Dietition Laura Vollink RD, LD is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. She is also a member of the American Dietetic Association and Southeast Missouri Dietetic Association. As the registered dietitian for Chartwells Catering and Dining Services on campus, Vollink seeks to promote healthy eating habits among students by designing healthier menu options, providing nutrition analysis, delivering nutrition presentations and implementing nutrition programs campus wide. Fee: Initial Assessment: $35 Follow Up Session: $30 GET FIT package (2 Fitness Assessments and 2 Nutrition Counseling Sessions): $85 non-transferable.

PERSONAL TRAINING

We offer a variety of personal training services to tailor to your individual needs. Whether you want to learn a proper way to exercise, workout with your friends, or know your current fitness level, we have something for you. Each session is one hour with a certified personal trainer. About Your Personal Trainer Our personal trainers are certified with nationally recognized fitness organizations such as Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), American Council on Exercise (ACE), and American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Most of personal trainers are Southeast students who are in exercise science or health promotion majors. Fitness Assessment In a Fitness Assessment, our personal trainer will administer several different screenings to measure your body composition, cardiovascular level, muscular strength/endurance, and flexibility. This service is great for you if you want to assess your fitness level before you start a new fitness regimen, and to monitor your progress after you start the regimen. Buddy Training If you want to workout with your friends, this service is for you. We know it is always fun to workout with your friends or family! You can get a fitness program to fit the need of each person from our personal trainer. One-on-One Personal Training This service is for those who want to start your exercise routine safely, learn proper techniques to exercise and get encouragements and challenges from a personal trainer. Our personal trainer will develop a fitness program with your specialized needs in mind. Get the attention you deserve!

PROFESSIONAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT American Red Cross, First Aid, CPR, and AED for Adult and Pediatrics Course

This hands-on skills training prepares you to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adult, child and infant. This course also teaches you how to safely use an AED to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest for adult. Participants in this course also learn to recognize and respond to emergencies including heat and cold emergencies, sudden illnesses and learn how to care for cuts and scrapes, and muscle, bone and joint injuries. Each class is limited to ten participants. Early registration is recommended since courses with low registration may end up being cancelled. Shape Up Southeast! Team Competition is an incentive program that encourages you to keep up with your physical activity routine with your teammates. You log your physical activity and wellness activity points online and compete with other teams for prizes. This program is open to the entire Southeast community. SMOKING CESSATION PROGRAM Put smoking out of your life for the good of your health! This FREE program could help you crush the habit no matter how long you have been smoking. Designed by the American Lung Association and presented by health care professionals from Southeast Missouri Hospital, this program focuses on behavior change and is a great way for you to quit. Throughout the program, the class facilitator will help you as you prepare to quit and then go through the steps of preparing to live a smoke-free life! The class format includes preparation for quitting, followed by either a “cold turkey” or nicotine-assisted method of quitting. SPORT CLUBS Sport Clubs are student initiated and led organizations created to provide additional opportunities for participation in unique sports instruction and experiences. Sport Clubs are open to all Southeast students/ faculty/staff with all skill levels from novice to expert. Sport Clubs are formed by individuals motivated by a common interest and desire to participate in a recreational, instructional or competitive activity. Sport Clubs place a strong emphasis on student involvement and develop students through physical and mental exercise, social interaction, and leadership opportunities. Traveling Teambuilding- Portable activities delivered to your location. Traveling Teambuilding is an educational adventure, leading participants to exciting discoveries about themselves and their roles as team members. It facilitates team-building with active problem solving activities that call on participants to think, plan, take risks, and support each other. Using ground level ropes and other portable props, workshop guides tailor each course to the established goals of a participating group.
