MICHAEL ALFORD

Vice President & Director of Athletics

Florida State University

Dear Seminole Boosters,

It’s a tremendous honor to convey the gratitude of our studentathletes, coaches, and staff for your generous support of Florida State Athletics and Seminole Boosters. The 2022-23 athletic year featured numerous examples of the strength of our athletics culture and the competitive excellence we strive for.

Furthermore, our ability to sustain success on par with the nation’s best is a testament to the fact that, without your support, our student-athletes could not continue to elevate Seminole Athletics to its rightful place. This report highlights the many outstanding accomplishments by our student-athletes and teams over the 2022-23 season.

Together, our commitment to being national leaders in competition, in the classroom, and in the community, continues to be exemplified by the enormous impact our amazing student-athletes have each day. They are the epitome of the standard of excellence that has symbolized Seminole Athletics for decades, and the reason I have been so forthright and enthusiastic about the importance of maximizing revenues through all means.

Their performance across all three areas mentioned above is not just something we take extraordinary pride in but also is an inspiration to all of us whose passion and support has sustained this program. Furthermore, the importance of your contributions in direct support of these initiatives makes all the difference.

Your unwavering support of Seminole Boosters and Florida State – both athletically and in all aspects –reflects the unique spirit of our Unconquered culture. Please accept my deepest thanks for your support.

ANNUAL FUND

The annual fund continued to serve as the fundraising priority in 2023 with an emphasis on increasing overall membership. We continued our plan of personal outreach to former members and qualified prospects to grow annual membership. The 2023 annual fund drive had three main objectives: Increase the renewal rate to 90% or higher, increase the number of new members, and increase members in Leon County. The annual fund grew in both pledges and members in 2023!

DOAK CAMPBELL STADIUM REDEVELOPMENT

The primary objective of this project is to maintain Doak Campbell Stadium as one of the best venues in all collegiate sports. The results of numerous surveys revealed 91% of our donors and fans support enhancing the game day experience and improving seat comfort. The architectural firm Populous will design the game day amenities desired by fans and address infrastructure needs of our historic facility.

We are currently in the preselling phase of this project which is pacing ahead of schedule. Construction will take place starting in December 2023 through July 2025, finishing in time for our home opener in August 2025.

UNRESTRICTED GIVING

Unrestricted commitments are more important than ever before in helping to fund the priorities of the Athletic Department. Unrestricted funds provide the flexibility for the Vice President and Director of Athletics to identify areas where they can have the greatest impact. Unlike facility or endowment gifts, unrestricted commitments are not earmarked for a specific designation and can therefore go to work immediately in core areas to support our student-athletes and coaches as well as the athletic facilities. They can also help to cover operating costs that are accrued throughout the academic year. By providing Florida State with a steady stream of discretionary monies, unrestricted dollars enable the Athletic Department to fund recurring costs and to address unforeseen challenges as they arise.

Launched in September of 2022, Bowden Society recognizes individuals who make commitments of $50,000 or more payable over five years.

Bowden Society gifts focus on funding new athletic facility construction, the enhancement of current athletic facilities, as well as contributing to the endowment fund, and are separate from annual fund donations and seat related requirements. Although the Bowden Society is named in honor of our legendary football coach, Bobby Bowden, this Society will help fund facilities and scholarships for all 20 varsity sports.

Just as Bobby Bowden transformed Florida State Athletics, gifts to the Bowden Society will ensure competitive excellence now and in the future.

Thank you for supporting all 530 student-athletes at FSU, including me. The Seminole Boosters is an amazing organization that makes a huge difference for all 20 sports. Student-athletes have demanding schedules, but the support staff at FSU helps us stay focused on class work and organization while trainers and nutritionist do their best to help us perform our best throughout the year.

And coaches help each athlete prepare and improve while motivating us to succeed. None of this would be possible without Seminole Boosters.

Being the quarterback at FSU was a dream come true, and I’m incredibly thankful for the support I’ve received from Seminole Boosters throughout my career.
