When it comes to sports tourism and recreation Rock Hill has it all, and then some. The Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department maintains over 1,250 acres in Rock Hill including 31 parks and four recreation centers. They have programs and park settings as varied as the interests of those who enjoy them!

When completed, the Rock Hill Outdoor Center will add approximately 250 acres of public recreation space to the City of Rock Hill’s current parks inventory. Current venues include the Giordana Velodrome, Outdoor Center Greens, Piedmont Medical Center Trail and the Novant Health BMX Supercross Track.

FOOTBALL CITY USA

Rock Hill has a national reputation for producing some of the best football players in the country. More than 20 NFL players have hailed from the city (at a rate of 1 player for every 8,000± people). Rock Hill has produced many first-round NFL draft picks, including Jadeveon Clowney (2014) of the Houston Texans, Buffalo cornerback Stephon Gilmore (2012) and Minnesota wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson (2013).

Rock Hill is home to a growing cycling scene that has received international attention for its state-of-the-art facilities and programs. The Giordana Velodrome, has a 250-meter track that cyclists use for training and development. The City of Rock Hill’s Novant Health BMX Supercross Track recently hosted the 2017 BMX World Championships and they will return again in 2024!

Rock Hill’s workforce is also supported by three higher education institutes, Winthrop University, York Technical College, and Clinton College, as well as some of the strongest K-12 programs in the region. Winthrop is the most diverse public school in the state of South Carolina, is ranked by several national publications as one of the best public universities in the Southern United States.

A public technical college with 5-7,000 students annually enrolled. Offers 90 programs for two year associate degrees, certificates, professional development programs, and university transfer students. Classes are held in modern facilities, and the campus includes a new science and technology building, a library and a child development center.

Sponsored by the AME Zion Church, this historically black, private school was founded in 1894 and has long focused on providing a liberal arts education. The school began offering four-year programs in 2013, and now its degree programs include a bachelor of arts in religious studies and a bachelor of science in business administration.
