1944
On October 20, Fred Tees ’44, a Selwyn House Old Boy whom many will also remember as a teacher and athletic director at the school from 1954 to 1972, gave a talk to the Westmount Historical Association about sports in Westmount, especially at Selwyn House. Mr. Tees’ talk was covered by the local press; articles can be found in the online versions of the Westmount Independent and the Westmount Examiner. Current Selwyn House Athletic Director Mike Maurovich also spoke to the Association about local sports on November 19.
1957
Selwyn House Old Boy Nicholas Hoare ’57 has decided to keep his Westmount bookstore open on a trial basis. The store, which has been a community landmark for years, had been slated to close in January. See article in the June 12 Montreal Gazette.
1987
Sywa Sung ’87 was the subject of a lengthy interview in a recent issue of InPark magazine that also featured three of his illustrations. The interview explored Sywa’s insights into being a Canadian of Asian heritage working in the U.S., and how the “outsider viewpoint” might give one an advantage when working in an American cultural millieu. Doug Huestis ’39 has just published his second novel, The Three Talents of Timothy O’Dowd, about a 14-year-old student at Selwyn House School in 1939 who has special talents that he uses to foil a terrorist plot against the visiting King and Queen.
Doug has been a technical and scientific writer and a medical school professor at the University of Arizona, and has written scientific articles, textbooks, essays, book reviews, and fiction, including the novel A Bag with No Secrets. For more info, go to DougHuestis.com. or amazon.com.

Martin Patriquin ’93 wrote the cover story in the June 4 issue of Maclean’s magazine about the student riots in Montreal.
1999
Joel Anthony ’99, the only Selwyn House Old Boy to have played in the National Basketball League, was featured in a May 21 article in the Montreal Gazette. The article follows his rise through the ranks for the 2012 NBA-champion Miami Heat. 2004
Casey Auerbach 2004, who plays baseball with the McGill Redmen, was featured in an article in the October 11, 2011 Westmount Independent about his trip to Switzerland to play professionally with the Embrach Mustangs. For more info, go to westmountindependent.com.
2008
Evren Boisjoli 2008 sported the Selwyn House bow tie on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where he was invited to screen his film L’Hiberné at the Cannes Short Film Corner. The film will also be screened at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal.
Selwyn House Old Boy and wrestling alumnus Greg Rossy 2008 was recently named Concordia University Rookie of the Year, at their annual awards banquet. Greg also won a bronze medal at the Canadian University Championships for 2012 in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
2009
“Above the Dust,” a short film on mountain biking by Leo Zuckerman 2009 is currently featured on the main High Definition page of Vimeo, an online video file-sharing website. “Above the Dust” was filmed over two weeks in Whistler, BC last summer. Go to vimeo.com and search for Leo.
2011
Berklee College of Music in Boston announced on February 10 that Esteban ObandoJaramillo 2011 has been named to the Dean’s List for having achieved a grade point average of 3.4 or greater in the 2011-2012 school year. In addition to Berklee, Esteban has been accepted as a student of noted Boston Conservatory piano professor and author Janice Weber. ■
