AT SELWYN HOUSE SCHOOL:
BURSARY PROGRAMAVAILABLE TO GRADE 7-12 FAMILIES
Bursaries provide the opportunity for students who have been successfully admitted to the school to pursue their education at Selwyn House School, even though they may not have the financial capacity to afford part or all of the school’s tuition fees.
At Selwyn House School, a bursary is a financial needs-based award and must be applied for each year that assistance is being requested.
Selwyn House is proud to offer over $1.5M in needs-based bursaries to qualifying Middle and Senior School students annually. Bursaries come from the interest earned each year from generous donations to the school’s endowment fund from alumni, parents of alumni, current parents, staff, friends of the School, foundations and corporations.
APPLICATIONS
Bursary grants vary depending on the financial situation of the applicant family. Interested families must apply through the FAST system. An amount will be determined per family and applied to the tuition fee. The difference will be the responsibility of the family. Bursaries do not cover incidentals that are billed during the year. Every family is expected to pay a minimum of 15% of the tuition fees (except in the rarest of cases).
HOW DO I APPLY?
Selwyn House uses a web-based program called Financial Assistance for Student Tuition or FAST. FAST uses information that families provide from their federal income tax return, as well as common invoices such as electricity and phone bills and summaries provided by financial institutions.
FAST examines the total income from all sources, all allowable expenses, and assets and liabilities, and then produces a report that assists the school’s Bursary Committee to make decisions about whether or not families qualify for a Selwyn House School bursary and, if so, how much could be awarded based on the assessed available income.
Every year that an application is made for a bursary, both parents will be required to submit complete copies of federal and provincial notice of assessments. If parents own a business, complete tax returns and Notice of Assessments for the business must also be submitted.
“Each year, we are proud to award over $1.5 million in needs-based bursaries in order to give deserving students the opportunity to benefit from a Selwyn House education. We are able to do so thanks to generous donations from members of the Selwyn House community.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW ARE BURSARIES AWARDED AND WHO QUALIFIES?
The school has limited funding for bursaries, and it is important that we award the funds we have each year to those families that actually cannot afford to pay for their son to be at Selwyn House. This does not mean that parents cannot apply for a bursary. Parents may qualify for a partial bursary. The school’s priority is always to make sure that our bursaries are granted to the families that need it most.
ARE BURSARIES AUTOMATICALLY RENEWED EACH YEAR?
Parents must reapply for every year that a bursary is needed. The applications open on August 15 and are due by October 15. The school will review only those applications received by October 15 each year. The majority, if not all of the available funds, will be granted during the fall.
THE VERITAS FUND
Our foundation, The Veritas Fund, disburses bursaries, primarily for financial student aid, from its endowment. This Endowment Fund provides bursary support to deserving students, allowing them to benefit from a Selwyn House education. In 2022-2023, over $1.5M was disbursed as financial assistance to 21.5% of students in Middle and Senior School. We thank all members of the Selwyn House School community who have donated to the Veritas Fund in the past, and will continue to do so to help maintain the excellence which Selwyn House School delivers.
