At the Elementary School level, we offer an active, progressive, caring and rigorous learning environment that lays the foundation for each boy to learn in his own way.
Our goal is to best support boys, according to the latest research, and address their needs, talents and strengths. We celebrate them all, rooted in the four truths of Selwyn House School: True to yourself; True to others; True to your school; and True to the world.
KNOWN AND LOVED
With small class sizes and a focus on active learning, our Elementary School boys are known and loved by their teachers and peers alike, allowing them to learn and develop with confidence, while making friendships that will last a lifetime.
With just 20 students in 2 homeroom classes in each level from Grades 1 through 6, our small class sizes allow for personalized attention from teachers and strong ties of friendship among the boys.
Our Elementary School (K-6) boasts a ratio of 1 educator for every 5 boys.
We keep boys moving with 3 to 5 hours of physical education per week, plus a rich and challenging athletics program.
In an all-boys environment, students can build and preserve their self-esteem without gender comparisons. They can grow and mature at their own pace, and be boys as long as they wish.
Starting in Kindergarten, each boy is welcomed into our House system, a key component of Selwyn House culture that encourages school spirit, fosters connections among boys of different ages and allows for development of leadership skills.
"I am excited to welcome you to our Elementary School where we inspire young boys to embrace bilingualism, creativity and innovation, develop respect, resilience and purpose, and discover their many talents as they learn, grow, and shape the world around them."
-Isabelle Faulkner, Head of Elementary SchoolEXPERIENCE IS EVERYTHING
We know that learning through experiences is not only more fun, it unlocks the potential of boys, enabling them to develop their strengths and refine their leadership skills. We provide a wealth of opportunities for boys to explore their interests and learn through doing:
Experiential learning through outdoor education activities including a survival activity in the woods, and an overnight trip to Quebec City
Drama, band, community involvement, leadership programs, and much more
FRENCH IMMERSION
We encourage the boys’ love of language and learning in both French and English, while exploring Quebec’s rich cultural diversity.
70% of the day is spent learning in French and 30% is in English in Grades 1-3
50% of the day is spent learning in French and 50% in English in Grades 4-6
