(Seguin) -- With major infrastructure projects in the works and a growing population just a year or two away, city of Seguin officials say they believe they have the right seasoned professional to help lead the way.
This week, the city of Seguin named Adam Rossing as its new public works director. Rossing will officially begin his new assignment June 16 following the retirement of longtime director John Donnelly.
Excited about this appointment is Seguin City Manager Steve Parker. Parker says Rossing brings more than two decades of experience to the role having served as the assistant public works director for the city of San Marcos.
“He climbed up the ranks in San Marcos when we interviewed him. So, he knows every piece of equipment. He’s over streets and drainage and fleet there at the city of San Marcos and we just thought he had those same qualities of leadership that we have been very fortunate to have in Mr. Donnelly,” said Parker.
As one of the fastest growing cities, Parker says the city needs someone who could oversee the expansion of various key programs.
“As the city of Seguin gets larger, we are going to be spinning many initiatives that we’ve got to really start to focus on and one of those is a big one – when we hit 50,000 population –there are certain requirements that kick in with TCEQ related to municipal stormwater. We’ve taken steps to start that process. We have created a drainage utility Growth, pg. 3

(Seguin) -- The music keeps rolling in downtown Seguin as the Summer Concert Series presented by Seguin Chevrolet continues with a soulful performance by Karess. Join us on Sunday, June 15, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Central Park for an unforgettable evening of live R&B music, featuring the talented members of Karess and a special guest saxophonist.
Karess began in 1993 as a Seguin-based band rooted in a love for R&B, hip hop, and blues. Coming from families of musicians, we were inspired to form a group that reflected our musical heritage and passion. As a new band, we were fortunate to perform at various venues in Seguin and the surrounding areas. One of our most exciting early opportunities was playing at the NCO Club on the San Antonio Military Base—an invitation that came purely through word of mouth, before we even had a demo.
Over the years, our sound has grown to include a wide range of genres, from gospel and jazz to oldies, while staying true to our R&B roots. Today, each member of KARESS is an experienced musician, actively recording and performing across various stages.
This concert will be a special reunion for KARESS, featuring several guest musicians. We’re thrilled to collaborate with. We’re honored to be part of Seguin’s Summer Concert Series in the Park and can’t wait to share this moment with the community.
The lineup includes: Donnie Wilson, Ronnie Rliles Jr.and 2 Fresh, keys and vocals; Rodney Durst Sr., bass guitar; JeRome Harper and Jerry Rios, rhythm and lead guitars; Brandan J and Branch Booker, keys; Isacc Devaughn Ellis, drums and percussion; and special guest saxophonist Shaakir.
The concert series continues June 22, Unplugged Acoustic performance by Bobby Pulido with special guest Roberto Pulido. The final concert on June 29 will feature the San Antonio Symphonic Band playing a variety of patriotic, classical, and big band music.
Different food vendors will be rotating for each concert, so the menu will change each week. The concerts will be on Sundays starting at 7:00 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. The familyfriendly concerts are free and offer something for every musical taste. Bring a chair or blanket and sit back, relax, and enjoy!
Special thanks to local businesses, industries, and individuals who generously donated to support the Central Park Summer Concert Series: Presenting Sponsor, Seguin Chevrolet and Supporting Sponsors, The Seguin Gazette, Tri-County A/C & Heating, LLC., Seguin Electric Co., Inc, Guadalupe Blanco River Authority, Guadalupe Regional Medical Center, The Gathering Place, TRC Infrastructure Inc., CMC Steel Texas, Anders Pierce Realty, Gift and Gourmet, GVEC and hosted by City of Seguin Main Street Program.

(Seguin) -- Set sail for a night of island fun this Friday as Park West transforms into an outdoor paradise for this summer’s next Movie in the Park!
Jennifer Sourdellia, the public information officer for the city of Seguin, says tonight’s featured movie on the big screen will be Disney’s Moana. She says although the free movie begins at 8:45 p.m., families will want to arrive early.
“We are going to be having some pre movie activities from 7 to 8:30 so bring the kids early. They can meet Moana, make a flower lei. We are going to have a face

which is going to be taking care of a lot more of the right-a-way -- drainage ditches, but there are all these bench marks that TCEQ requires the cities to adhere to and Mr. Rossing has implemented that same program in San Marcos when it turned 50,000 population and so that really stood out for us because we know that that is something we’ve got to achieve in the next several years when we get closer to 50,000 and Mr. Rossing will be able to do that,” said Parker.
Parker says his strong background in street maintenance will also help him further assist the city with the expansion of its sidewalk program.
“There were also other things that he had specialized in. Just in the last couple of years, we have put money aside for new sidewalks and to repair sidewalks even – before we did not have any funding source related to the repair or construction of new sidewalks. Mr. Rossing actually implemented an inhouse sidewalk crew and they lay each year in San Marcos and that’s a goal of mine. We have so many areas that aren’t connected and we need to have those connected or even repaired for people with disabilities, people with strollers, kids walking to school – we need safe routes, and so Mr. Rossing implemented a sidewalk program there. We will be doing something similar here as new funding sources arrive,” said Parker.
While he is excited about Rossing’s leadership, Parker understands that he’ll have some big shoes to fill
painter there so they can get their face painted island style before the movie starts. It’s so easy. All you have to do is pack your lawn chairs, blankets, bring your own snacks or you can grab some tasty bites from our food trucks. We are going to have some food trucks on site and just come and join the evening with us under the stars. It’s going to be a tropical night of family fun, and we look forward to seeing everyone out there,” said Sourdellia.
Again, food trucks will be on site, but families are encouraged to bring their own snacks and drinks.
Restrooms and accessible parking will be available.
following Donnelly’s many years of dedicated service to the city.
“I’ll be the first one to admit that the city has some third world country streets in town but that did not occur during Mr. Donnelly’s leadership time here. Actually, we are setting benchmarks every year related to the amount of asphalt that we are laying and actually we have a program now where we index our roads and grade them. It’s called Pavement Condition Index and he’s the one who gets all the credit –he and his crews – putting in countless hours and have made a real difference in the quality of roads and John just has this leadership quality about him. His guys will run through a brick wall for him and that’s really what I was trying to hope to find in Mr. Rossing and I feel very confident that he has a lot of those same leadership qualities because we do want to continue that momentum and continue all the good things that we are doing in our community,” said Parker.
Parker says the city is also looking forward to Rossing’s engagement
with community members as he helps prepare them for a new larger vision of Seguin’s infrastructure.
“Adam has a lot of experience and transparency and communication, an outreach to our citizens doing open houses, doing meet and greets and that was one of the things that stood out to me was just his ability and willingness to get out into the community and make sure that people know him and know what the projects are – how they are going to be developed—what’s going to be the timeline so that people are more aware. We are excited about that dynamic as well,” said Parker.
Rossing’s background includes oversight of public infrastructure, stormwater systems, municipal operations, as well as emergency response initiatives – all skills that city leaders say are critical for Seguin’s future. Rossing shares that Seguin has a strong tradition of excellence in public works and is eager to be part of the city’s continued growth and success.
The Guadalupe County Emergency Management Office on Thursday was forced to activate emergency safety measures in order to ensure the protection of residents during the severe weather that rolled into the area. The proactive plans are part of the county’s ongoing service to public safety and are coordinated through Emergency Management, Road & Bridge crews, and first responder agencies throughout Guadalupe County. The office on Thursday activated the Emergency Alert to residents living on the Guadalupe River and they continuously monitored low-water crossing barricades. In addition, the Constable Pct. 3 office was called in to assist during water rescues at Cibolo Creek at Nu Pecan Grove in Schertz.

The new therapy is called Enflonsia, and it’s a shot designed to protect newborns and infants from mild to severe RSV through all five months of the virus’s peak season. In a trial, the injection reduced hospitalization of infants by 84%. The company behind the drug, Merck, says they hope the therapy will be available by this Fall.
(undated) -- A study has found black colored plastic found in toys, food packaging, and utensils could contain toxic levels of flame retardants. The problem comes from mistakes in the recycling process. The chemical is typically found in the plastics of electronic enclosures, but the improper recycling of electronic waste has the chemical showing up in children’s toys and food containers. The study says the enhanced exposure to the chemicals in those consumer products is linked to higher, and more deadly rates of cancers.
(Undated) -- A new study finds that your coffee drinking could be linked to healthier aging. The University of Toronto study followed women for 30 years, and found those who drank one to three cups of caffeinated coffee a day in their 50’s were more likely to reach older age free from chronic disease, and with good cognitive, physical, and mental health. The study also showed that uncaffeinated coffee, tea, or other caffeinated beverages did not produce the same effect.
(Undated) -- Your low-calorie diet may be impacting your mental health, according to a study. The study found men who were on calorie restricted diets were more likely to suffer from depressive symptoms, and of those studied who were obese, they were twice as more likely to suffer symptoms. Researchers say that sometimes those calorie restrictions can lead to people cutting out important foods used for mood regulation, exuberating those symptoms.
