South Africa, adding that the greatest challenge in fixing the problem was job creation. “Focusing on youth entrepreneurship is one of the numerous solutions to reduce unemployment. By creating new technology platforms, broadening the research base of the university, facilitating the transfer of skills and technology to the wider community, the Technology Transfer and Innovation Directorate makes VUT the ideal candidate to be your partner in this entrepreneurship initiative,” she said. Executive director of the Global Entrepreneurship Research Association Dr Michael Harrington stated that
the Innitiative had over the years proven to enhance entrepreneural skills especially in people that came from disadvantaged and poor backgrounds. “This is the third campus to have such an initiative, there is one at the University of Cape Town and the second one was opened at the University of Johannesburg Soweto campus,” Harrington said adding that there would be a take in of 50 students every 5 months which means that the first 100 students in total would get their training in 2014. Sasol Stakeholder Relations manager Bafana Mthoegana says, “In our country a greater component of
the unemployed is the youth, which poses a serious challenge in social cohesion and economic growth of our country. “The intended impact is to create entrepreneurs that are visionaries that create fundamental social changes by reforming social systems and creating sustainable improvements, have a potential to create wealth and stimulate growth in their communities, socially aware- as much creating profit is encouraged, but much also have social impact in improving the living conditions of communities.”Mthoegana concludes.
