30. Richte mich Gott (Psalm 43) by Felix Mendelssohn
My musical journey began in choir. It was there that I first discovered the magic of music—the kind that lights up your imagination, stirs something deep inside, and stays with you for life. Singing in those early ensembles didn’t just teach me how to make music—it taught me how to feel it.
This playlist is a love letter to that time: a collection of the pieces I sang and fell head over heels for. I hope they move you as much as they moved me.

1. Sleep
If I could credit a piece for inspiring my journey into classical music, I would credit this piece by Eric Whitacre. I remember the 7th grade choir class when our substitute teacher had us listen, and my life was forever changed.
7. When the Earth Stands Still There have been many love songs made, and if there was a choir category, this song is it. The poetry is so wonderfully painted with music and reminds me of those that are dearest to me.
26. My Soul’s Been Anchored in the Lord
From the first notes, I knew this piece would be on repeat for me. This powerful spiritual finds new life in this choral arrangement with every word and note both exciting and terrifying.
What pieces of music have inspired you the most? After listening to this playlist, go back to those songs you've heard that inspire you and try to remember where you were when you first heard it. Enjoy that feeling.
Young Joe in the early choir days!
