Letter from the Director
Throughout the Program Guide, you will find activities, programs, and events that will impact lives and build community pride! We strive to accomplish our mission by offering something for everyone. Whether it is a stroll through one of our parks, an adventure on the new Hubbard Park Playground, a visit to the dog park, or a day spent in the Heckart Community Center, I hope you will find something that engages and challenges you to live a healthier, happier, more rounded life.
As we head into 2023, our department is energized and looking forward to continuing to meet the needs of our growing, vibrant community. With over 300 acres of utilized park land, we strive to maintain our parks and facilities, and be sure that we are doing our best to stay on top of facilities as they age and continue to plan for the future. As we have been very clear, our outdoor pools are close to the end of their lifespan. Honestly, 20 years is typically the most you will get out of outdoor pools. Our pools have both surpassed that, thanks to the support of this community and the staff that maintains and operates them. With that being said, you will begin to hear and see that we will be moving forward with plans to design and build ONE new Outdoor Aquatic facility with hopes that this facility is on the east side of town. Once a location is set we will be asking for community engagement on the design and amenities that our included in the Aquatic Facility, we want to hear what you want. This will be a process, but the goal is to have a new Aquatic Facility opened Memorial Day weekend of 2025, and we look forward to keeping you in the loop each step of the way.
The Sedalia Parks & Recreation Department oversees over 300 acres of park land, Convention Hall, and the Heckart Community Center, as well as maintaining 7 parks: Liberty, Centennial, Clover Dell, Hubbard, Housel, Katy, and Vermont Park. A wide array of sports, recreation activities, lessons, and special events are available for all area citizens.
As always, if you have ideas, concerns, or would like to chat, please feel free to reach out. I would love to hear what you have to say regarding parks, recreation, and wellness here in Sedalia! Have FUN out there and create memories that will last a lifetime!
