Care Ministries

Prayer Binds Us Together As A Community Of Compassion And Hope

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful...” Colossians 4:2

The ministry of Care is the work of the whole body of Christ: church members, deacons, ruling and teaching elders, and staff. Together, we believe that in life and in death, Christ is present with us, redeeming our brokenness, celebrating in our joy, and leading us to wholeness and peace. As followers of Christ, we believe that we are called to embody Christ’s presence and compassion for one another.

If you or a loved one is hospitalized or has a need for support or prayer, or you simply want to let your church family know what is going on in your life, know that we want to hear from you. Please contact Coordinator of Pastoral Care, Ashley McNamara. Ashley can connect you with a pastor or initiate other types of care.

It is a holy and joyful calling to care for one another in all seasons.

Intercessory Prayer Group • Mondays, via Zoom

Join in the ministry of prayer as we lift up the joys and concerns of our community and world. All are welcome to be a part of this ministry.

Contact: Rev. Madison VanVeelen (MVanVeelen@SecondChurch.org) for Zoom details.

Service of Wholeness and Communion • Sundays • 11:15 AM, Milner Chapel

This 15-minute worship service is open to all and is a weekly opportunity to gather and receive the gifts of Scripture, prayer, and communion. After communion, anyone who wishes may receive anointing and prayer from a pastor.

Home Communion Ministry

Every Sunday after worship, our deacons are out in the community delivering home communion. Our hope is to serve those who cannot physically come to church, whether short- or long-term. We believe that the Lord’s Supper sustains us throughout our life of faith. It is a joy and a privilege to share this holy meal together!

Thank you to all our friends who dedicate their time and care to grow our Community Garden. This three-quarter acre plot south of the church provides fresh vegetables to the Northside Food Pantry and it is due to the help of our Garden Crew, VBS participants, and local partners, that we are able to feed and serve so many members of our community.

Volunteer Opportunities

Deacon Meal Ministry

Calling all cooks! Is cooking one of your love languages? Consider partnering with our Board of Deacons to offer meals to those in our community who could use a night off from cooking following a hospitalization, birth, or another significant life event.

Flower Delivery Ministry

Our Deacons are in need of more vases for their flower delivery ministry. If you have medium size vases that you could donate to the church, we will put them to good use! Please bring your vases to the church reception desk. As a reminder, if you or someone in your family is hospitalized or has other needs for prayer or support, we are here for you.

Hospitality Team

Join the Hospitality Team and help us be a welcoming community of faith! Sunday morning hosts greet guests, provide directional information, and answer questions. Hosts volunteer one Sunday a month and choose between one of two shifts. We also need subs who can fill in when necessary. If you prefer to work behind the scenes, you can volunteer to help set up the atrium coffee bar each week.

Welcome Team

The Welcome Team helps write notes and deliver welcome bags to guests who visit on Sunday morning. There is also a need for data entry assistance. The team meets every Monday.

Children’s Circle Preschool

Children’s Circle Preschool (CCP) is always looking for substitute teachers. It is a fun way to be a part of the school without the commitment to a weekly schedule. Substitute teachers can choose the days they work and age groups they prefer to work with. Our staff is always grateful to have loving and supportive subs ready to help out in our classrooms.
