A note from our Head of School, Brenda Leaks.

At SGS, we believe that belonging to a community where it is safe to be oneself with all of the nuance, quirk, and growth that is part of adolescence is one of the most important gifts we can give our students. Our mission challenges us to help each girl discover her place as a leader and to support her as she develops and uses her voice to change our world. And, we believe that every girl can change the world. We know that you do, too. As a member of the SGS community of believers, you support every one of our students on her leadership journey. Thank you for reinforcing our belief in the power and potential of our students through your philanthropic support. We couldn’t live our mission without you!

Welcome from our Student Council!

Seattle Girls’ School is a special school where you can be yourself, learn more about yourself, and how to accept yourself and others. We are open to change and uniqueness. SGS is probably one of the only schools where you can burst into song and at least one other person will join you. The energy and spirit of SGS is something we will always treasure.

Our journey at SGS teaches us how to be leaders through real world experiences, and there are so many opportunities to lead. Culminations, like Mock Trial and Board Exams, give us the ability to present our work to a professional adult audience and build confidence along the way. If you have a great idea for a Student Interest Group or After School Club, you are encouraged to start it, and that’s exactly what we do! We started ASPIRE (After School Peers Inspiring Respect and Empowerment) this year and help lead IMPUHWE (Inspiring and Motivating Undiscovered Hopeful Women with Education). In IMPUHWE we are pen-pals with girls in

Nigeria and work to support girls’ education! We learn that leadership skills aren’t all about being loud or demanding. Leadership skills can focus on being level headed, compassionate, organized, positive, and many other qualities.

SGS celebrates our our leadership capabilities, but we also learn something more: that we are unique AND unified. At SGS, we join together to champion change in ourselves and the world. Thank you for supporting our school and being part of our journey!
