Writing a covering letter Measures Before writing the letter, 1. Update your resume. If you have not already started, then write. 2. You should be aware of some important items: * What is the purpose? Is it to set you apart from the competitors as they promote? * What are the customer needs of employers? What kind of people do they target? * What are the Company’s or organization's values? Is it Innovation, Service, Diversity or Sustainability? * What is the date? Who was the founder? Is the business or organization ready? 3. Analyze work. Carefully read the job description. Pen down the important points, and put a check mark next to these after each accomplishment. 4. To work within the department, you can use your network to find the name of the manager in charge. Is there someone you know in the company or industry? Can he help you? If not, call the HR department. Write time 1. Format the heading elements correctly. Line Spacing and address conventions mainly apply for a paper cover letter. Printing out an online version that is unlikely, history alone is enough, or need not be. * Mention your address 1 inch down from the top of the page on the top right corner. * Then skip at least 4 lines and enter the date. * Skip another 4 lines and write the name of the person you want to contact or the company name and address. If you are not sure of the specific person you want to contact, Write "Dear Sir / Madam". 2. The body of your letter should have three or four paragraphs. 2|P ag e

* In the first paragraph, tell the employer why exactly you are writing to him in two or three sentences. State the position you are applying for. Avoid the standard opening “I want to apply for a position…” You can design your inaugural sentence in such a way that the reader would sit up and be forced to give it the attention you desire. * In the next one or two paragraphs, layout and position your qualifications so as to match the employer’s requirements. Show enthusiasm and desire to help the company reach its target output. Use your own background and history of what research is about. Add two or three strong points, supported by specific examples of attempts. Some relevant details about the company concerned and some research ahead of time will help the employer know you as an enthusiastic and responsible person. * In the last paragraph, write a positive statement or question such that the employer will want to consider you for the post. Write the closing paragraphs in 2-4 sentences. Provide your contact information (phone numbers, e-mail address) and welcome them to get in touch with you. It is important to thank the employer for his time and consideration. 3. Conclude your letter with ‘Sincerely yours’ (if your letter is addressed to a specific person), ‘Yours Faithfully,’ (if "Dear Sir" approach is used) or ‘Regards’ and leave four empty lines to sign up your name in blue ink. If you use black ink, they may think it’s a copy. If it is online, leaving only one or two blank lines will do. 4. Proofread. This is important. Some things to look out for are: * Make sure that everything is spelled correctly. Check grammar (for example, avoid sentences like "this experience gave me a chance ..." or worse, these goals were met by me. "). Instead, you can write, “In this experience, I learned to…” But this does not mean that every sentence should start with. “I”. Change the syntax accordingly. * Break any contraction like “I’ve” to “I have” and so on. * Writing in colloquial (informal) language must be avoided. You should sound professional, objective and educated. * Check punctuations carefully. * Keep the letter to one page only. The aim of a cover letter is to make the hiring manager read your resume and help you reach your goal! If the letter is spilling on to another page, it is time to edit and fluff.

5. Key skills / experience / success, and how the company can achieve its mission. List three of them. Be specific. Dear (1): As (2) with (3), in (4) I am curious to contribute my skills (5) Given that I believe in (employer name) (position) as its mission and goals can help. You can end by writing, “For your convenience, my resume is attached. Please feel free to contact me at my phone number and / or e-mail address. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, (sign your name) Review * A good cover letter should not sound like a re-hash of your resume. The highlights of your resume have to be pulled and tied to work gracefully with the expansion. Cover letter actually serves as a bridge between your resume and the position you are looking for. * Your cover letter and your resume should be visually appealing and integrated with each other. Use the same personal information in your cover letter as well as your resume heading block. Together, this resume package is a very attractive selling point. If on paper, (i.e., not online), use the same high quality paper as you have used for your resume. At the same time, there are more style elements. Same type font is never wrong (unless you're in art). * Be comprehensive. Never use two words when one will do. (Avoid verbosity). * The more non-traditional the employer, the more creative you can be to write a cover letter. * You need not explain everything. You can leave the employer to learn more about you later. Good Luck!
