Ebbett gets used to NHL call-ups time. I play on the third or fourth line with Phoenix so I have to adjust my play. We have a lot of depth so we roll four lines and kind of wear teams down. We’re good on the back end and (Ilya) Bryzgalov is one of the best goalies in the league. Ebbett played one year in the B.C. Hockey League, amassing 45 goals and 84 points with the Salmon Arm SilverBacks. He then had a stellar NCAA career with the University of Michigan Wolverines, pocketing 38 goals and 143 points. He has played 121 NHL games with the Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Wild and Phoenix, earning 18-30-48. Ebbett has fond memories of two trips to the CocaCola Classic tournament, where he was coached by Joe Oliver and Clayton Adams. “Everything was exciting about that tournament, said Ebbett. “They made you feel like a star with the banquet and the parade. There was a team from Ontario so it was a pretty big deal. Ebbett is engaged to be married in June in Michigan.

So goes the 2010-11 hockey season for Vernon minor hockey product Andrew Ebbett. The 28-year-old speedy forward was recalled by the Coyotes in late January after former Kelowna Rocket Vern Fiddler went down with a shoulder injury. In San Antonio, Ebbett and linemates Brett McLean (second-round draft pick, 2007) and Michael Bodker (first round, ‘08) are the No. 1 line and the major reason the Rampage are chasing the American League Western Division title. “It’s a lot of fun playing with those guys, said Ebbett. “There are a lot of good, young guys down there. The guys are a little smaller and the play is a little slower, but the hockey is still pretty good. “Getting called up still feels the same as the first

Everyone has been looking forward to this year’s tournament. Some of the best hockey memories for our players and coaches are annual tournaments like this. Being surrounded by friends and teammates, and the feeling of belonging to something bigger is what it is all about. I am happy to be a part of the excitement! Welcome to the 40th Annual Coca-Cola Classic Invitational Pee Wee Hockey Tournament!

For our out of town guests, I hope you will enjoy your stay in Vernon and take time to explore the scenic sites and tourist attractions in Vernon and the surrounding communities.

As an Association, we embrace the philosophy of “Team First”, which reminds us all to respect the other team, the officials, the other fans and volunteers. Experience has shown us, that this tournament brings out both local and visiting hockey fans from all over for the best Peewee hockey around.

Good luck to all the players and coaches - let the games begin!

The 2010/2011 Watkins Motors Mustangs play in the Okanagan Mainline Hockey Association and represent the city of Vernon, B.C. in the Peewee Tier 1 division. The league this season is comprised of four very competitive teams and the Mustangs are currently ranked 16th overall in the province of British Columbia. The team this season has attended the Darcy Robinson Memorial Tournament in Kamloops along with the Kelowna and Prince George Peewee Tier 1 tournaments. The Mustangs saw the most success this season when they attended the 8th Annual Seafair MHA Tournament in Richmond and brought home silver. The coaching staff is led by Chris Kopp along with assistant coaches Joe Gourdine, Jeff O’Keefe and Kevin Black. The coaching staff heavily emphasizes teamwork, good sportsmanship and a strong work ethic. Their love of the game along with strong knowledge and experience has jelled this group of 17. The team is comprised of three first-year players and 14 second-year players. In addition to a very good goaltending duo, they have a solid defence and a tenacious group of forwards. On behalf of their sponsor, Watkins Motors Ford, the Mustangs would like to thank the Coca-Cola Tournament Committee and wish all of their competitors good luck.

The Anchorage North Stars Peewee Tier I hockey team plays under the Anchorage Hockey Association (AHA) in Anchorage, Alaska. Founded in 1961, the AHA is officially into the 49th year of existence in Alaska youth hockey. The North Stars compete in the Alaska State Hockey Association against teams all across the state of Alaska from Fairbanks to Kenai. As there is only one other Peewee Tier I hockey team in Alaska, the North Stars will play the bulk of their schedule against Bantam Tier II level competition over the course of the 2010-2011 season. To date this has proven to be a very challenging task, but the team has responded with steady improvement setting its sights on ultimately winning the state tournament. This year’s team is comprised of 16 second-year players and one first year-player. With eight players returning from last year’s Tier II team and a great complement of new talent, the North Stars continue to build a ‘team-first’ culture. Under the leadership of head coach Ryan Moren and assistant coach Mike Corey, the North Stars believe in energy, hard work, and team commitment. With limited Tier I competition in Alaska, the North Stars are extremely excited to compete outside the state, and look forward to a great tournament experience.

Middle Row (L-R): #71 Dawson Frank, # 6 Matt Barker, #7 Olivia Knowles, #88 Dustin Kew, #12 Andy Stevens “A”, #87 Darian Swift, #19 Maddison Devlin, #4 Marcellus Wilson, #8 Cory Bukauskas, #16 Nolan Fair. Back Row (L-R): Jim Ross (Asst. Coach), Craig Schelter (Asst. Coach), Paul Stapley (Head coach), and Vince Devlin (Asst. Coach) [Not Pictured, #55 Tyler Dickson]. The Campbell River Tyees compete in the Tier 1 division of the Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association. The team currently sports a record of 3 wins, 2 losses and 3 ties, good enough for third place in this very competitive league. The Tyees have participated in four tournaments so far this season. The highlight was the Comox Valley Tier 1 Thanksgiving Day Tournament where they played solid two-way hockey and advanced to the final after winning four straight games. Unfortunately they came up just short, falling 6-5 to the Vancouver Thunderbirds in the championship game. The Tyees faced some of the strongest teams in the province at tournaments in Langley and Abbotsford, and most recently travelled to Westside. Campbell River is the defending Peewee Tier 2 Provincial Champions and has two players returning from that team, forward Sage Lim and defenseman Andy Stevens. The squad consists of six first-year and 11 second-year players. In addition, the Tyees are very proud to have two female players, Olivia Knowles and Maddison Devlin. Both are exceptional athletes and fierce competitors. The coaching staff is very positive with the players and appreciates the effort, dedication, and commitment every individual puts forth. Head coach Paul Stapley feels his team is peaking at the right time and says “The Coca-Cola Classic will provide some good, stiff competition that will help us achieve our goals of winning the Island Finals and heading back to the Tier 2 provincials”. The Tyees would like to thank the organizers of the Coca Cola Classic for accepting their application, as they are the first Campbell River team to attend this prestigious event. They also look forward to new friendships and camaraderie with all the other participants.

Ernie Kowal Trophy - COACH’S AWARD Ernie Kowal was active in Junior A and minor hockey in Vernon since moving to the city in 1958. ‘Esso Ernie’ served as a coach, manager, vice-president and president in the Vernon Minor Hockey Association and was an owner with the Vernon Essos of the B.C. Junior Hockey League. A volunteer firefighter and former member of the RCMP Auxiliary Force, Ernie died Dec. 12, 1997 at the age of 63. He is survived by his wife Viv, son Tom (now an NHL referee) and daughter Sue. Ernie and his brother-in-law,Vern Dye, ran the Junior A franchise in Vernon for more than 20 years and the two men used their own vehicles to transport players on road trips. Ernie coached the juvenile Reps in 1983 and made national headlines with a no-swearing policy on the team. He was named provincial coach-of-the-year in 1985 after he and Tom led the Vernon Atom Reps to the Okanagan title.
