Sean Edirisinghe is an aspiring Graduate of Architecture with interest in applying playful ways architecture can interact with its users. My interest in Architecture began with my curiosity towards design and in specific, one that deals with spatial play and thinking. This interest grew in to a strong pull to pursue a career in Architecture and the Master of Architecture course provided a fruitful avenue towards that. My role included Producing Documentation sets for presentations to clients, Prepare construction documentation sets, 3D Modeling on client dependent projects and material scheduling and sampling for client presentations.

Stud io Semaphore This role followed from my internship at Studio Semaphore. My primary role was to 3D model the concept signage types for presentations of iterative design stages and the final product and the accompanying renders.

Main dining area of Shepparton Villages Aged Care Facility I acquired the position of student Architect at PTA Architecture Flemington location in March of 2017. The dedicated team of Architects and Interior Designer worked in a variety of design, construction and contract projects. Ranging from Aged Care Facilities, Multi-residential dwellings and Residential dwelling.

Skills acquired: As the student architect, I was required to complete a variety of office up-keep task. Managing the office’s daily needs required an attentive protocol of time management and resource supplementary management skills.

Working closely with another graduate architect on a commercial project also challenging and developed stings of skills, along with the understanding of how architectural practice is conducted in professional practice.

I gained the responsibility to liaise with clients, contractors and authoritative departments, along with producing architectural documentation that had strict deadlines to adhere too.

Nathan’s Terrace, comprising twelve single storey terrace houses on two street frontages, was developed by Melbourne furniture retailer, Samuel Nathan, during the land boom of the late 1880s. The buildings heritage significance listed the design towards restoration of existing architectural motifs and the proposal of additional living areas expanding the 1880s charm.

The matte black provides highly legible messaging without cluttering the interior. A 3D printing technique brought the digital & physical fabrication process into a more streamlined process, with the possibility of alterations in a faster turn-around time. Each icon was individually modelled and sat alongside the material elements.

Whilst working for the Casa Forte Group, I learnt job skills that translated into a deeper understanding of Interior Design. The commercial projects I worked on ranged from trampoline parks located in the United Kingdom to Australia’s bowling facilities. My primary role was concept design and documentation. As shown in the following pages, my part was to develop the interior design elements for approval.

Monash University’s advanced, immersive and large scale visualisation facilities, ranging from the ultra-scale CAVE2, to personal head-mounted virtual reality ( VR) devices. Researchers and industry connect to nascent display and interaction technologies that stand to change visualisation.

Meaning, the fundamental attributes which encroach this projects didactic qualities are also the finite details which symbolically complete ‘Bricks of Earth’ as an architectural project positioned in the future acknowledging projected futures, while developing a road map.

to make its visitors aware of both environmental and social sustainability needs by being an immerse and tactile experience which brings people close to the elements of nature and the sustainability

The distinctive tower which functions as both a solar chimney and a thermoelectric generator dominates the mass of buildings.

This creates a dramatic experiential quality to the pavilion both inside and outside, while also performing some of the primary sustainability functions of the site.

APARTMENT P4 Master Core unit - Housing

This project, a multi-residential apartment complex, aims to challenge the norm of typological housing models. Using research forming the basis of the design approach.

Melbourne population is set to increase. Therefore, the existing housing market is in a crisis of expending more than is available for people to inhabit; therein, this project aims to combine apartment living into a set of experimental programmes, enabling people to live and work.

Furthermore, the ground f loor programmes activate the surrounding population through open workshops, open to the public and tenets.

POST-TENSION Master Core unit - Digital Design Group Project

‘POST TENSION’ is a project that aims to personify the inevitability of climate change through data gathering and mechanisation.

This project ultimately explores the concept of digital design and iteration; thus, ‘POST TENSION’ is firmly grounded within this context.

Model making was an essential aspect of the iterative design process. As the project was firmly grounded with real responses to user input, identifying the project’s realism through model marking was needed to translate to digital to meet the brief.

TR ANSPLANTING THE FUTURE AND THE PAST Site: Sydney Town Hall and surrounds.

This speculative project attempts to provide an expanded narrative, broaching a changing climate with architectural responses to educate and foremost create awareness. In this speculated, yet realistic future, the design intent is curated to formulate a set of experiences. In which the user is subjected to a range of temporal based experiences. Therefore, the design response arranges the architecture into four distinct components. The first component is a proposed civic square and transitional space that provides users with different threshold junctions that lead the route to the second and third response in the design follow a focused didactic approach – which includes, a Museum to Dead Coral artefacts, within the same linear f loor plan, is a subterranean coral nursery, providing a network of transplantation coral to dying reefs along Sydney’s continental shelf. The fourth component is the Sydney Town Hall and redevelopment of the internal program to incorporate learning and ground-level laboratory spaces injunction to the subterranean laboratory spaces. The resulting project circulates in a looped system.

The overall conditions of the site presented a unique interpretation of Sydney City in the year 2030. This project focus indicated a connection from a translated ecology, the central estuary, to the Civic Square and Town Hall programs. In an attempt too, implement an Estuary into the city’s heart, with the tailpiece end f lowing to the southern end of the proposed civic square.

In addition, the Town Hall transfers its existing programme to focus on education and research in coral growth. The (right) enables an intense set of classrooms, lab spaces and vertical coral storage rooms. In contrast, the (left) collaboration and surveillance rooms provide a reprieve from the intensity of the (right) plan.

The project plays with changes in levels, both in the subterranean footing of the site and the ground and above, to encroach a temporal experience for the site’s user.

The estuary’s water source f lows into the Townhalls subterranean basement, populating the basement with seawater, affecting saltwater with the same condition for coral growth.

The hydrological process passed from the newly translated Estuary functions for the subterranean coral nursery to circulate seawater for infant and ready for transplantation coral. This process mimics the conditions found in natural ecosystems along the continental shelf where coral naturally grows.

Indicated is a potential location for a new continental shelf for the translation of coral from the Town Hall nursery. In addition, to the conceptual ideas this project evokes, this self will also aid in the barrier of sea-level rise from climate change—a natural sea-wall.
