Newhaven Wellbeing Centre

Nestled in the heart of Newhaven town, just behind the new police and fire station is the Newhaven Wellbeing Centre, Summerhayes, which is part of Southdown’s East Sussex Community Network. Centre Co-ordinator Stephanie Foard said, ‘We support people who are experiencing mental health difficulties, which can cause low mood and isolation. We do this through offering a safe, welcoming environment with a variety of groups and activities, educational courses, monthly social evenings and 1:1

support. We aim to help people get well, stay well and to avoid crisis.’ The centre offers a range of activities such as drama, mosaic and clay groups, cooking and sharing lunch. Other support includes a music appreciation group and Mindfulness of Movement. There are regular educational and creative courses such as Be Confident, Own Your Self Worth and Experiments in Printing. There is also a weekly Peer Support drop-in session, led by a mental health Peer Specialist. Starting something new can be really daunting, especially when experiencing poor mental health. Newhaven Wellbeing Centre is somewhere to go where there are people who care and understand; there will always be a warm welcome.
