seaford U3A News When the clocks change at the end of March we lose an hour but gain huge encouragement that at last this winter, with its unusually wet spells, is coming to an end. In particular the longer evenings make us feel brighter and more positive in our lives. The U3A is very positive about the future. Over the last few months there have been a good number of new members, some very interesting new groups for them to go to and other events such as outings and talks. Some of the new members have found their way to the U3A by going to the Coffee Morning, where both non-members and members are made welcome. This month it will be on Wednesday 18th March at the Constitutional Club, Crouch Lane, Seaford between 10am and 12 noon. Coffee (or tea) and refreshments costs only £2 and the chat is free! If you go along as a newbie ask for one of the committee to introduce you

to some of the members and find out about courses and other U3A activities at the information point. The Tea Party for members only is very early in March when Michael Smith will be talking on Ernest Shackleton – the Man and the Myth. Refreshments after the talk. The Tea Party is every month from about September to April and a variety of subjects is covered. Sometimes it might be history or local interest but there have been talks about Your DNA, Plastic Free Seaford and Creativity for Wellbeing. On 3rd February Sue Williams, a well known local actress at the Little Theatre gave a talk entitled Bed Among the Lentils. This was a comical monologue, much enjoyed by the members, which Sue delivered in character. Outings are also part of the U3A programme. For members only, these are about every two months throughout the year. The outing in March will be to Westminster Abbey with a guided tour round this remarkable building. Members can also attend the Pub Lunch once a month in a local hostelry and there will be some talks at The Downs Leisure Centre. Seaford U3A is part of the Sussex U3A Network (SUN) which offers members and non-members study days and is also connected to the South East U3A Region. On 14th March at Rustington for SUN Sue Berry will lead a study day on Country Houses of the South Downs, from Medieval to 20th Century. U3A members are £8 for the day, non-members £10. For more information about Seaford U3A and also about its linked organisations, Sussex U3A Network (SUN) and SE U3A Region, see the website www. u3asites.org.uk/seaford.
