Our December competition was entitled ‘Winter Wonderland’ and as you can see from the photos, there are some delightful interpretations. However, personally speaking, I would prefer it if we didn’t have a real winter wonderland. Instead, the thought of spring is one of the main motivations to look to the future in these difficult days. We have been encouraged by news of future planned events by Sussex Area NAFAS (The National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies). They celebrate the Area’s Diamond Anniversary at Leonardslee in September and we all sincerely hope that this will go ahead. Apart from that we have other events to look forward to – Chelsea in May, Chichester Cathedral Flower Festival in June, Hampton Court in July and Winchester Cathedral in September. We only hope that these dates are sufficiently far off for the vaccine to have been distributed and for us all to resume something resembling our normal lives. In the meantime we flower arrangers will continue to endeavour to brighten up our homes with some of the lovely spring flowers that are now starting to appear.
