Seaford and Bishopstone Neighbourhood Watch Association ‘Promoting Good Citizenship, Neighbourliness and Crime Reduction.’

Newsletter Winter 2013/14

MEMBERSHIP:

As Mark mentioned earlier, Neighbourhood Watch membership locally is on an encouraging upward trend, with over 1100 members registered for 2013., and we are delighted to report that we have received over 660 Membership Forms already for 2014, and look forward to receiving more after this Newsletter has been released, as the 2014 Subs are now due. A Membership Form is printed after this Newsletter for your use. Remember, the more Members we have, the louder your voice will be heard in our relationship with the Council and the local Police. Regretfully, records show we have over 1000 exMembers who did not renew in 2013 or earlier years, and we would love to know why. Do you think we are irrelevant? Are we not addressing the issues that are most important to you? Are we not communicating effectively? Did you just not get round to it? We would welcome your views on how you think we should be targeting our efforts to support our aim to “Promote Good Citizenship, Neighbourliness and Crime Reduction”. Please feel free to tell us what you want from your local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme. Continuing on, the main benefits of membership are: • Your local area can be monitored by a Road Co-ordinator, leading to lower crime rates. • If you are able to supply an email address you will receive regular emails from NHW which will include up to the minute police news and local information. • Up to 4 Newsletters published each year. • Improved local relations bringing a sense of ‘community spirit’. • Peace of mind that neighbours, even if you don’t know them that well, have the same values and also wish to see a crime-free area. • A channel to report suspicious issues to the local police and to receive information back from them. • Reduction in your premiums on Home & Contents Insurance from most insurers. We hope to have the facility for online bank transfers and Membership Applications up and running for

2015, and if you have any general queries concerning Membership, then please contact the Membership Secretary, Martin French, on 01232 873946 or at martin.french@post.com

DELIVERERS MEETING:

We held a very successful but informal Deliverers Meeting on 30th October, where we gave our Co-ordinators and deliverers an account of our activities over the last year and outlined our plans for expansion in 2014. The meeting was followed by a short talk from Seaford Speedwatch and then a slide show on “Unseen Seaford” by local historian and NHW Member, Kevin Gordon.
