Program Director Mimi Wild is celebrating over 25 years of service—a milestone that reflects both her deep personal commitment and the vital role she plays keeping Molly’s House such a special place.
Mimi began her journey at Molly’s House in 1998 through her own cleaning business, servicing the guest

Today, she oversees the day-to-day operations of the entire house—coordinating guest referrals, managing reservations, responding to emergencies, and making sure every stay is as stress-free and supportive as possible. September: The Gateway Month
Game Changing Edition
By: Kelly Leary, M.S. & Miranda Capperelli

“The proof of love is in the works. Where love exists, it works great things. But when it ceases to act, it ceases to exist.” – St. Gregory the Great As the pressure to live the “perfect” summer dissipates, you will begin to feel extra space.Pressure makes diamonds, and it is an ideal month to reignite your sparkle. If you are a parent of school-age children or college-age adults, you likely just gave the back-to-school motivational talks. “Make new friends. Join clubs. Study hard.” Having children is a lifelong commitment to love forever. However, back to school means “back to you.” Once again, we thank all of you for following us for so many years and for sharing this enlightening news with your single family and friends. We love you back.
Along with flirting with the last quarter of the year, single adults are thinking about what it would be like to be in a relationship again. This is called “healthy stress,” and it will move you forward. “Unhealthy stress” will freeze you in your spot and hold you back. What would you tell your younger self entering into a new chapter of life? Thoughts of coupling off are unavoidable this time of year, don’t stress the inevitable. As the prelude to cuffing season, September invites us to embrace change, leave our comfort zone, and experience the journey of falling in love (again). In the same way you encourage young people to go after their dreams, we urge you to take your own advice while you are youthful enough to enjoy it! Connection.
September merges an ending with a beginning, a time when the universe seems to take a collective breath. We are in a moment of subtle yet profound change. Leaves are changing, and the energy is different this time of year. This prepares us for the revolution that lies ahead – the prospect of finding deep and meaningful connections before the year ends. Biological factors are at play. Whether you like it or not, the human body will biologically seek emotional support through relationships—super loaded this time of year. It’s science. Love is in our DNA. Above a healthy eating lifestyle and ten thousand steps a day--longevity is contingent on connection. Anticipation.
As the days grow shorter, the anticipation of cuffing season begins to build. This idea of “cuffing season” may be seen
Dating
as just one of many cultural influences through the media, but there’s no denying that you have not felt this feeling too. This is the prequel to holiday romance. Your new beau will be chiming in soon. Believe it and live on this trajectory and it will present itself—because you are living “as if” it has already happened. Fight it or buck it and you may have another holiday season solo. It will be a “you problem” if you do. This is a two-man job--and it won’t happen unless your mind and body are living it...before it even happens. This can lead to thrilling adventures and unexpected encounters that culminate in lasting relationships. It is said that relationships that begin in the Fall Season have a higher rate of longevity and sustainability.
Behold The Learning Curve.
Just as nature adapts to the seasons, you can too. You can overcome any hurdles that may be blocking your (romantic) growth. Today we know more than we did yesterday. Our knowledge of what you need and who you need is at your service and has been for 34 years and counting. We meet clients who are easy to match because of their own strengths. Likewise, we have clients who need some tweaking. We urge you to keep your ears open, because no one is perfect, and you might need some work to prepare for your new plus one. Be open to learning as you enter into a relationship again and embark on a new dating journey.
The Solution.
Welcome September with the excitement of a child on the first day of school. Pretend you are on a college campus again. Make new friends. Try new things. Join new clubs. Get yourself out there and be seen by new (single) people. Say goodbye to your old life and greet your new life with open arms and an open heart. You can be living a completely different reality by the holidays. Let’s hit the last part of 2025 with the strength and courage we instill in our children as they go to school.
There are people ready and excited to meet you. Someone is waiting to fall in love -- with you. Be present and available so they can find you. Reach out to connect to the hottest and most well-respected matchmaking firm, ideally located just for you. Stay in love with life. Let it love you back.
Thank us later.
XOXO, Kelly & Miranda

Kids Corner
From Overwhelmed To On It: A Parenting Expo
By Jim Forgan, Ph.D., Licensed School Psychologist
Parenting a child who learns differently can be both rewarding and overwhelming. You might find yourself asking questions like: How can I help my child stay organized? What do these test results really mean?

How do I prepare my teen for college? If you’ve ever felt unsure of where to turn for guidance, my parenting expo focused on learning differences is the perfect place to start.
My expo brings together experts and educators to offer you real-world strategies and support. From managing executive functioning challenges to decoding neuropsychological testing, the five sessions are designed to turn confusion into clarity.
One of the biggest advantages of attending? Connection. You’ll meet other parents who share similar challenges and triumphs. Knowing you’re not alone can be incredibly
all while personally connecting with our guests. She’s part problem-solver, part comfort-giver, and entirely irreplaceable.”
Founded in 1996, Molly’s House was inspired by the vision of Molly Sharkey, who passed away at age 18 from a rare form of leukemia. Molly dreamed of creating a “home away from home” for families with loved ones receiving care at local hospitals—much like the Ronald McDonald House she had experienced during her own treatment. Thanks to generous community support, her dream became a reality.
For Mimi, it’s the people and the stories that keep her here. She recalls one particularly meaningful experience with a large family whose loved one had fallen ill while on vacation. “They took over the entire third floor,” Wild shared. “To this day, they return every year to visit. They even held a vow renewal in

powerful. Plus, networking with professionals and fellow parents often leads to resources you didn’t even know existed.
The expo sessions are tailored to meet you where you are. For example, if you’re navigating the special education system, you’ll gain practical advocacy tips to make your voice heard. If you have a high schooler with learning differences, you’ll walk away with a roadmap to help them transition to college with confidence.
Another key focus is strength-based parenting and learning to see ADHD and other learning differences not just as challenges, but as opportunities to unlock your child’s unique gifts. Sessions like “Unlocking Strengths” help reframe your perspective and offer tools for positive parenting.
In just one day, you’ll gather information it might take months to research on your own. Whether you’re new to the journey or deep in the trenches, this expo is designed to equip, empower and encourage. Investing a few hours in this event could transform the way you support your child for years to come.
Join us on Saturday, Oct. 11 in Jupiter. The cost is $10 of which all proceeds benefit the Carter Viss Foundation for boating safety. Learn more about the expo at JimForgan.com/expo or call (561) 625-4125 to discuss your child and your concerns for possible learning disabilities, dyslexia, ADHD, autism or anxiety.
far beyond a place to stay—it’s about creating lasting connections during life’s most difficult moments.”
As healthcare has evolved, so has Molly’s House. With patients spending less time admitted in the hospital, more guests are now patients themselves—staying nearby for recovery, follow-up appointments, or multiple treatments scheduled days apart. While the reasons for staying have shifted, the need for compassionate, affordable lodging remains strong. Molly’s House continues to adapt to these changes, guided by the same spirit of love and community that brought it to life—and by extraordinary people like Mimi, who keep it running day and night.
“This is more than just a job,” Wild said. “It’s about making sure every part of the house—from the first phone call to the final goodbye—supports families when they need it most. It’s an honor to help carry forward Molly’s dream.”

Take Action And Stand In The Gap For The Hungry
By Ruth Mageria, Executive Director of CROS Ministries
Hunger often goes unseen. It may be hidden in the child who can’t focus in your classroom or the one who only has one slice of days-old bread in his lunchbox. It may be hidden in your neighbor who just lost her job and is struggling to pay next month’s rent. It may be hidden in your family member who is battling cancer and the medical expenses that go with it.
14.6 percent of U.S. households do not have enough food for an active, healthy life. High food prices and cost of living, low income, and increased unemployment rates are contributing factors to food insecurity. It is estimated that more than 192,000 residents in Palm Beach County struggle with hunger. More than 50,000 of these individuals are children.
Charity News
Without food, we are starving our children of potential and stripping their parents of hope for a better life. This is a public health crisis that requires the attention of our entire community.
Despite Palm Beach and Martin counties ranking in the top five wealthiest counties in Florida, more than 11 percent of each county’s population lives in poverty. The gap between the food secure and those who go hungry is widening.

As the executive director of CROS Ministries—a leading South Florida nonprofit providing hunger relief

in both of these wealthy counties—we see firsthand the effects of rising grocery and housing costs and other economic pressures on food security. Over the past five years, the number of people seeking food assistance from CROS has surged by 71 percent.
This increased demand comes at a time when USDA cuts to The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and other federal funding cuts threaten to significantly limit the food and financial support CROS receives by 10 percent—directly impacting how much food CROS can provide to the increased number of families and individuals facing hunger and food insecurity.
In 2024, CROS distributed 1,160,913 pounds of food which helped serve 121,664 individuals. Behind every meal and bag of food CROS provides is a person, a family, and a story of resilience. Access to food can change the trajectory of their lives – helping them transition off food assistance to become the next entrepreneurs, teachers, scientists, doctors, social workers, etc. Access to food will help build a better community, country, world for all of us.
September is Hunger Action Month, a nationwide effort to raise awareness about hunger in America and inspire action. Every action—big or small—is one step closer to an America where no one is hungry. At CROS, although we aim to increase awareness of the hunger crisis this month, we take action every day to ensure access to healthy food for all in need. Our programs include community food pantries, hot meal services, and gleaning initiatives that recover fresh produce from local farms.
We cannot meet the rising need alone. Please consider joining us in taking action against hunger. Volunteer at your local food bank, food pantry, or hot meal program to help with sorting, packaging, preparing, serving, or delivering food. Host a food drive at your school, workplace, or place of worship. Organize a group to help gather surplus fruits and vegetables from local farms that would otherwise go to waste. Contact your state representatives and local leaders to speak out against federal funding cuts to the SNAP (food stamps) and Medicaid programs. Give financially to help fill in the gap for the increased food needed at higher costs.
Whatever your action may be, take action! Take action so that we can ensure our brothers, sisters, and neighbors have access to healthy food and don’t have to choose between essentials like food, rent, and medicine. Take action so we can feed our children so they can meet their full potential and be the next change agents in our world. Take action so we can restore hope for a better future for millions of U.S. residents.

The Golf Learning Center
The Pivot
By Tom F. Stickney II, Director of Golf Instruction
Over the course of time there have been several different positions that people have played successfully from … in the beginning some players tended to lean away from the ball at address, next we saw players leaning towards the target at address, and now the trend on Tour is to set up with the spine basically centered right in the middle of your body. Let’s examine a visual of the three different pivots from setup to the top.

In the right tilt position, you will see that the spine is leaning away from the target at address a few inches, this places the rear shoulder under the lead shoulder at address. It will also place the head a touch behind the ball at address as well and 55 to 60% of the weight will be on

the player’s right foot at address. The more you tilt to the right the more weight will move to the right and the more the shoulders will tend to close at address. Be careful not to allow the hands to push too far past the inside of the forward thigh as this can open your shoulders at address.

At the top when using this pivot, you will see that the head has moved a touch laterally to the right and there is an extreme amount of weight on the inside portion of the right foot at the top. This lean over the right leg also will influence the shoulder turn to be a touch flatter to the top or more rounded and is a better position for less flexible players to get into if they cannot make a full turn to the top as well.

In the centered address position, you will notice that the spine is vertical, and the hands are basically right on the forward portion of the zipper on the target-side. As you can see from the left frame that the weight is distributed 50% on each foot while the shoulders are square to the target line. Be careful when you center your spine as you can easily lean your weight too much targetward and having open shoulders at your address position can also throw off your swing plane on the way to the top.

As you reach the top of your backswing you will notice that the rear knee has straightened slightly keeping the weight in the middle of the body … this is the point we will pivot around on the way down keeping us “centered.” The spine is just slightly leaning to the right of center and the shoulders have made a full turn to the top. Having this position will help the player to have a shorter arm swing to the top.

In the leftward tilting position, you can see that the spine is indeed leaning leftward placing most of the weight on the forward foot. The head is even to slightly in front of the ball (to some degree) from the overhead position you can see. This setup position will help you to make sure you hit more down on the golf ball and tends to steepen the player’s angle of attack into the ball. As always try to keep the shoulders square at address as shown above.

In the top position of the leftward tilt, you can see that the body has not moved to the right and most of the weight is on the forward foot to the top. This is helped in part by a straightening of the right knee to the top which tilts the right femur inward keeping the weight more leftward. As you can see this player has to work hard to keep the shoulders turning behind the ball and the swing will tend to be a touch more upright than the centered pivot position. Once again the arms are extended so the swing can have width to the top as well.
Experiment with these three up positions and see which works best for your game … each has its own merits, but only you can decide which works best! Enjoy.

More Than 75 Community Members Join Martin County Healthy Start’s Inaugural Bridge Walk For Babies On July 12
More than 75 community members gathered at Jock Leighton Park on Saturday, July 12, to take part in Martin County Healthy Start Coalition’s first-ever Bridge Walk for Babies, a new event designed to spotlight the importance of maternal and infant health across Martin County.
Families, advocates and local supporters stepped up – literally and figuratively – to rally around efforts that ensure moms, babies and families have access to the care they need. The family-friendly walk was launched in response to the recent closure of Martin County’s only labor and delivery unit, which has left expectant families facing increased barriers to care.
“I’m a second-generation Martin County resident, and I hope we have a place for future generations to give birth in their own community. The lack of local maternity care is deeply concerning,” said Jessica Tharp, board president of the Martin County Healthy Start Coalition. “Events like the Bridge Walk

for Babies are not just symbolic; they are a call to action. Our community deserves access to safe, reliable maternal health services, and I’m proud to stand alongside those working to make that a reality.”
Participants enjoyed a morning of unity and purpose, with breakfast and coffee available from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County food truck and photo-worthy moments along the scenic walk route.
The Bridge Walk for Babies is part of Martin County Healthy Start’s broader efforts to improve access to prenatal and maternal care through initiatives such as the MOM Mobile, a mobile prenatal unit that brings services directly into neighborhoods, and the proposed Treasure Coast Maternity Center, a future facility dedicated to serving families on the Treasure Coast.
“Every baby in Martin County deserves the chance to be born healthy,” said Samantha Suffich, CEO of the Martin County Healthy Start Coalition

and the Treasure Coast Maternity Center. “We’re committed to building a future where no family has to leave the county to receive quality maternity care. This is about doing what’s right for our community.”

Over the past five years, the number of people seeking food assistance from CROS has surged by 71%, driven by rising grocery and housing costs and other economic pressures. This increased demand comes at a time when USDA cuts to The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and other federal funding cuts threaten to significantly limit the food and financial support CROS receives, directly impacting how much food CROS can provide to the increased number of families and individuals facing hunger and food insecurity. Behind every meal and bag of food CROS provides is a

Cervical Disc Herniation: A Pain In The Neck That Is Treatable
Cervical (neck) disc herniation is seen in many age groups. This problem is becoming more common as people spend hours each day with their neck bent to look at computers, tablets or cell phones. Ivan Stoev, M.D., a neurosurgeon at Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital, answers some commonly asked questions about cervical disk herniation.
What Is A Herniated Disc?
The spinal column is made up of a series of bones called vertebrae. Between the vertebrae are flat, round cushioning pads called intervertebral discs, which act as shock absorbers. Each disc has a soft rubbery center made of cartilage like our ear lobe. A herniated disc ‒ also called a slipped or ruptured
Periodontal Disease
disc ‒ occurs when pressure from the vertebrae above and below force some or all of the “rubbery cartilage” through a weakened part of the outer layer of the disc.
What Are The Symptoms Of A Herniated Disc?
Neck pain, headache, pain radiating down the arm or in the shoulder, and numbness or weakness in the fingers are all signs.
How Is A Herniated Disc Diagnosed?
Your physician can order a variety of tests to determine the cause of neck or shoulder pain, such as X-rays or MRI or CT scans, sometimes with dye is injected into the spinal canal. Another test is an electromyelogram, which involves placing small needles into muscles and measuring their response.
How Is A Herniated Disc Treated?
Some improve on their own. Physical therapy, steroidal medication and traction can help improve them too, as can
spinal injections known as epidurals or nerve blocks. For more serious cases, surgery to decompress the nerve root and remove a small part of the disc gives pain relief. For extreme neck and arm pain, we can remove the entire disc, replace it with a bone graft or artificial disc. Most patients can resume normal activities six to eight weeks after surgery.

85 percent of pets have periodontal disease by 3 years of age. It is the leading health problem found in our pets and can pose serious short- and long-term health concerns, beyond just bad breath, oral pain, and a generalized decreased quality of life.
In a normal mouth, the teeth are clean, pearly white and the gums attach smoothly to the tooth. There is no redness or tartar, and your breath smells great! The tooth is bathed in saliva, bacteria, and food particles but if this is brushed away, it never mineralizes into tartar. However, if we do not regularly disinfect our mouths and brush away the plaque, the plaque will mineralize into tartar. Tartar is solid and gritty and covers the crown of the tooth. This creates inflammation and blocks oxygen from bathing the outer tooth, which changes the nature of the bacteria in the mouth. This new bacterium eats away at the attachment of the tooth and surrounding bone. The result is periodontal disease. Even worse, this new type of bacteria can seed to other areas of the body leading to infection in the heart, liver, kidney or virtually anywhere the bloodstream carries it. The body is constantly fighting spread of the infection.
Fortunately, there is a lot we can do to prevent periodontal disease, and the rules are ones we are all familiar with, whether referring to us or our pets: professional cleaning and at-home care. You can generally expect once your pets reach 3 to 4 years old, they will need a professional teeth cleaning every 12 months. General anesthesia will be necessary for each tooth to receive proper attention and care. Additionally, home care is ideally a daily part of tooth maintenance but
Answer for Crossword Puzzle

even brushing just twice a week can remove most plaque before it can mineralize into tartar. Clearly not every pet is amenable to hands-on oral care though, nor is every person’s schedule amenable to it, so for those cases, there are some lower maintenance options as well.
It should not be surprising that dental health requires regular professional cleanings regardless of whether the mouth in question belongs to a person, a dog, or a cat. Home care of the tooth is never perfect and periodically tartar must be properly removed and the tooth surface properly polished and disinfected. The professional cleaning performed at the veterinarian’s office is similar to what a person receives at their dentist’s office. Large tartar is removed with specific instruments, then the periodontal sockets are probed and measured to assess periodontal disease. The roots are planed, meaning tartar is scraped from below the gum line until the roots are smooth again. Then the enamel is polished to remove any unevenness left by tartar removal. Finally, the mouth is disinfected and possibly treated with a fluoride sealer or plaque repellent. After the cleaning, professional notes are
taken on a dental chart, noting abnormalities on each of a dog’s 42 teeth or a cat’s 30 teeth.
Once the oral health exam has been performed, at- home care becomes important to maintain a healthy mouth. Daily brushing is recommended, but studies have shown that even twice weekly brushing is enough to significantly reduce the amount of plaque buildup in your pet’s mouth. In addition to brushing, there are dental wipes, rinses, and pads, as well as preventative gels, dental treats and diets that aid in oral health. The Veterinary Oral Health Council is an organization that evaluates dental products, and their website is a good resource to help guide you on available options.
Too often our pet’s dental health is overlooked and attributed to a normal amount of “stinky pet” breath and nothing more. Unfortunately, this can not only affect their oral health, but it can also have serious systemic health consequences. If you have any questions or concerns or want to discuss this further, your veterinarian can answer your questions and help assist you in keeping your pet healthy for many years to come.

Ivan Stoev, M.D.
