Madisen’s Match At The Landings Raised $85,000

HAZEL WHITE JONES

From every possible standpoint, Madisen’s Match, a fund-raising event for kids with cancer, was a tremendous success when it was held on March 15 and 16 at The Landings. When people gather to share a tennis court with Grand Slam champions, learn from the best players and coaches in the world and come with open hearts and wallets, good things happen.

This program began 15 years ago when event creator Duane Chaney’s niece, Madisen, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Prior to this year’s event, Madisen’s Match has raised over $1.3 million to support pediatric brain cancer treatment programs in the area. Madisen is now a delightful 20-year-old young woman who attended and was feted at the event.

VISITING PRO MURPHY JENSEN AND THE LANDINGS OWN NATHAN SMILEY WERE AMONG THE TEACHERS AT THE PRO CLINICS.

The star-studded tennis players included 14time Grand Slam champion Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, five-time Grand Slam champion Emilio Sánchez, French Open doubles champions Luke and Murphy Jensen, #1

world-ranked doubles player Don Johnson, U.S. Davis Cup Team Captain Tom Gullikson, former Top 10-ranked Mikael Pernfors, and ATP Tour stars Ryan Harrison and Denis Kudla!

The event began with a dinner on Saturday evening held at Compass Rose at the Helm Club. The staff presented a delicious array of foods based upon what you would find at the four tennis Grand Slam events. Among the special offerings were strawberries and cream, scones, and tea sandwiches worthy of Wimbledon, and for the French Open, a vast variety of cheeses, baguettes, ratatouille, and salmon en

especially valuable prices were auctioned off live. The highest bid of $6,000 came for tickets to see Keith Urban in Nashville from a special box at the theater. Fierce but friendly bidding was fun to watch and the winners were delighted not only with the prizes, but with the knowledge that the funds were going for a very good cause.

Those who weren’t successful with their auction bids were invited to donate to the cause. Many did so, with some giving as much as $5,000 or $2,500 and others giving $100, with the added incentive that Mark Turnbull, croute. The Australian Open featured a fresh summer mix of greens, tomatoes, peaches, feta, basil and almonds with vinaigrette dressing, and delicious mini lamb meat pies. The U.S. Open offerings were an heirloom tomato and watermelon salad, a French fry bar, and slices of perfectly cooked, medium rare New York strip steaks. The Landings chefs and servers did a beautiful job of preparing and presenting the food.

The band Cinnamon Cove performed during cocktails and dinner when people put in their bids for silent auction items. Five

one of the event’s sponsors, matched all the $100 gifts, a match that raised an additional $3,300.

Three of the celebrity tennis professionals, Tom Gullikson, Murphy Jensen, and Ryan Harrison each donated $1,000 to support the pediatric cancer treatment program at the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. The organizers are grateful for their generosity.

On Sunday, the amateur participants were treated to the Legends Tennis Camp and Pro-Am. There were morning clinics followed by lunch with the pros, afternoon clinics, and

a special Pro-Am that gave players a once-ina-lifetime opportunity to play with and against Grand Slam champions.

Those amateurs who participated in the event were exhausted and exhilarated at the same time. The advice and coaching they received will serve them well. The players spent a total of five hours on court on Sunday, and though their muscles were tired and sore, their spirits soared.

The final event was The Pro Tennis Classic, which gave spectators the opportunity to watch the pros in action. This was the perfect end to a superb weekend.

General Manager’s Report

MARCH 2025

As the season begins to wind down after a busy winter full of events, we try to evaluate all the member functions to gauge participation for inclusion into the next season’s calendar. There will be surveys coming out in the next few months to ask members what they liked or didn’t, to help staff plan for next year and the future. I also ask that members take a minute in the near future to thank all the many employees (over 120), who work so diligently behind the scenes to make each day’s events enjoyable for our membership. These folks spend countless hours preparing and executing all the details that go into each event or party, and work in every conceivable weather, and under some unique circumstances, to make the season enjoyable and memorable for members.

The outdoor music festival in February was well attended, and the changes to this year’s production hopefully provided a nice experience for all to enjoy. Madisen’s Match in March, and the St. Patrick’s Day dinner, were both well attended and hopefully provided a fun day and evening for those who attended.

The Wheelhouse continues to set records for attendance almost weekly, and we’ve worked daily to improve the food and service as well

as the reservation system. All members can still make reservations by phone, by computer, or by phone apps. With both the Wheelhouse and the Helm Club open most days for lunch and dinner, we find it’s no longer necessary to make a dining reservation for lunch. Walk-ins should be accommodated very easily. Reservations for dinner, especially at the primary times between 5:30 and 7 p.m., are still greatly appreciated. We’ve tried to keep a few more tables available for walk ins should you drop in unexpectedly. We spend a great deal of time and effort to ensure we get members the time and dining table they requested. After only two and a half months since we opened on New Year’s Eve, we’re

constantly trying to improve our system and our staffing levels. Please be patient, as this has been challenging opening a new facility in the middle of season, without the proper amount of trained staff. Every week we’re trying to improve what we do for both dining venues. Easter brunch in April should be full for the 400 plus guests we’re expecting.

As spring and summer quickly approach, we expect many members will be soon heading out for northern destinations. Please travel safely, and from both management and staff, we wish you a happy and enjoyable summer season. Look forward to seeing you all again in the fall.

Bridge Club Board Elected

On the last Monday of March, the Bridge Club held an election of Board members for next year. Winners by acclamation were as follows: Bill Ferris, President; Tim Whiteis, Vice-President; Sue Wotton, Treasurer; Pam Dahlberg, Secretary; Bill Rush, Club Manager and Board Member at Large; Barb Coneys, Member at Large; and Jerry Poissant, Member at Large. All will serve twoyear terms, unless they resign before their term is up. We also announced that the end-of-year spring party will be held on the Main Deck at the Helm Club after the bridge game on Monday, April 28. We will all meet for lunch and celebration. Members are encouraged to bring significant others to the party, on the Club’s dime.

From left, back row: Jerry Poissant, Tim Whiteis, Bill Ferris, Bill Rush, front row: Barb Coneys, Pam Dahlberg, Sue Wooton

Good news on awards, too. Stepping up to Bronze Life Master was Barb Coneys. Earning a badge for Life Master was her usual partner, Jerry Poissant. And achieving his Silver Life Master was Bill Rush.

Though not sharing the same bridge accolades at this time, we have a dedicated group of members who help set up the games every Monday and it is time to recognize them, too. John Coker is in charge of the setup crew and leads the effort to be at the Helm Club a good hour ahead of game time. Helping him set up the tables (we are hold ing steady at about 8-9 tables per week) are usually the Lindas—Linda Lahti and Linda Logio—as well as VP Tim Whiteis. Lynne Birdt is also an important member of the Registration Desk, collecting names and money at the door. In her spare time, she has assisted with Partnership duties throughout the year.

One more thing, lest I leave readers with a misconception that the Club will not be in business after the April 28 party. I should explain that we will be playing bridge at the Club most of May, if there are members who want to play. Tentatively, we will play right up to the Monday before Memorial Day. Our wonderful longtime Director, Judy Cleveland, is going to New Hampshire to visit her family just before Memorial Day, so we will have bridge right through May 19 if there are enough people who want to play. Actually, we won’t know when the bridge season is over until April 26 at the party, at which time we will announce the last day of another successful season!

Landings Fishing Club

LEROY FLEMING

There was a free dinner—that’s right, a free dinner. Well, you may call it that, although you first must be a member of the Landings Fishing Club (LFC).

Each year the LFC celebrates another great season. In late March the Admiral gathers his or her Captains, Commanders, or Bosun’s mates to convert the Helm Club into a nautical feast. Old King Neptune smiled at the results produced by Admirals Mike and Marybeth Maile. Lots

of gear, lures, nets, and bobbers hanging from the ceiling gave all the “swabbies” entering the illusion of an underwater world.

Captain Lefty (aka LeRoy Fleming) and Admiral Marybeth Maile.

For a moment I thought the guitars were going to play “Victory at Sea.”

“The Strings” played music throughout the evening. The music, played from appetizers through desserts, ranged from oldies to current. A talented vocalist and even a great saxophone solo gave the group the feeling of a dinner club outing.

Fish and chicken with savory

scalloped potatoes with a splash of green broccoli was served buffet style. For dessert a blackberry, blueberry, and cherry cobbler was served with whipped cream of course. The fish shaped bottles of wine were in the middle of each table.

“The Strings” entertained all through the dinner.

Other than the food the main attraction was who gets the wine? Once again LeRoy Fleming read the Captain Lefty’s fishing trip for the Wright family while passing the bottle. When the words right or left were spoken, the last pass ended up in the hands of the winner of the wine.

There were more winners with many, many door prizes and the always favorite, 50/50 for cash. Dancing to “The Strings” with smiles all around, the LFC sadly said “All Ashore.” Old salts became landlubbers once again but not before saluting the Admirals and crew for a fantastic voyage.

Busy Month For LLGA 9-Hole Golfers

DEBRA BATES

Hello Landings 9-Holers! Whew, what a busy, fun month we have had. I hope everyone has enjoyed the fun as much as I have. First of all, I would like to thank Pat Tylander and Pam Grusz for checking everyone in for March. What a great way to put names and faces together, especially if you are new to the 9-Hole League.

March hostesses Pat Tylander (left) and Pam Grusz.

Several 9-Hole members participated in the Member/Member event in March. We enjoyed a beautiful day and after golf had a delicious Italian feast. Julie Iverson and Peggy Thompson were first, and Deb Hedges and Connie Murphy placed second in Flight 2. Debra Bates and Esther Devos placed second in Flight 1.

We also completed the second week of our Club Championship. The winner for 2025 was Suzanne McGauley. Diane Teeter placed second and Bev Reeves was third. In Flight 2, the winner was Peggy Thompson. Donna Hendricks won Flight 3 and Bonnie Fritch was

first in Flight 4. Linda Sharron received the Most Improved Golfer award. Congratulations!

We celebrated all our winners at the Awards Banquet held the next week. The banquet committee members were Pat Tylander, Linda Sharron, Nancy McCracken, JoAnn

We played a regular scramble with muchappreciated mulligans and sandies. We met the new director of golf, Mark Wehrman, at a lovely luncheon following the scramble.

The following week we played a Bingo Game which was new to our league. Everyone received a bingo card that had squares to mark off for bingo, such as longest drive, wearing team colors, double bogey, etc. We all agreed it was a fun game and looking forward to playing it again.

LLGA-18 Ladies Golf Happenings

MARY ANN SPRY

A huge “Congratulations” to our 202526 LLGA-18 League champion, Karen Shelton.

Championship low gross play took place over two days and it was an amazing finish with all participants playing their hearts out.

First Place Flight winners are Lynda Redmon, Marilyn Collins and Mary Ann Spry. We hope to encourage more of our members to participate in the Championship tournament, as it is such a rewarding experience.

Our End of Year awards luncheon was just held and Most Improved Player Award was presented to Cheri Fletcher. Karen Shelton had the most Birdies for the year and Lynda Redmon most Chip-ins. The “Ringer” winner for the year with a low gross score of 47 also is Lynda Redmon, and Linda Tucker is the low net winner. The “Ringer” is a tally of your best score of each hole for the season.

Our Board for the new season was introduced and all 2024-25 members were thanked for a great year. Board members are President Lynne Denk, V.P. Lesley Patey, Secretary Liz Welsh, Treasurer Marty Roemer, Asst. Treasurer Diane Giebner, Membership, Christy Fitz, Rules and Handicap Lynda Redmon, Member at Large, Karen Shelton and Away play, Sarah Noyes.

Karen Shelton, LLGA-18 Champion.

Our league welcomes our new Director of Golf, Mark Wehrman. We look forward to getting to know him and support his leadership here at the Landings and hope he enjoys what our Landings golf programs have to offer. Our league has worked with our golf pro Chris Lajoie for so many years where he has helped us through thick and thin. Thank you Chris for all the time and effort you put in to help in pairings, schedules, scoring and instruction. We appreciate your support and wish you well in your new venture of golf.

We do miss our LEGA and away play days, but several of our members were invited to a “Guest” day at Gulf Harbor C.C. with their lady golfers. Isn’t “Putters, Petals,

and Pearls” a fun theme for a ladies golf outing? Helen Amy, Diane Giebner, Christy Fitz, and Belinda Stacey had a great time with Helen coming home with a win.

Another “Hole in One” occurred on our Awards Day game where we played a 2 BB Shamble. You take the best drive and play your own ball from that drive, and Linda Maness had a hole in one on the third hole to give the team a great score for that hole. Great playing Linda!

hole.

Needless to say, our year was full of golf activity, social activity, and enjoying our very special 18hole league in so many ways. We welcome another new member, Colleen Clark to our membership. As always, we look forward to playing golf and getting to know you. Play will continue on Wednesday mornings when the course is open.

Have a great May and don’t forget to wish a Mom “Happy Mother’s Day.” Fly your flag and remember Memorial Day!

Around the Greens – News from the LMGA

As the main part of our 2024/2025 LMGA calendar winds down, we look back on a terrific season of great golf with equally great camaraderie. Membership has remained strong as has enthusiasm for our Saturday golf outings.

In March the league held its annual championships. The competition in all flights was fierce and the winners are all congratulated on their wins. Following are the results.

In the Senior flights: Flight 1 winner is LeRoy Fleming and second place went to Pete Sherman; Flight 2 winner is Bob Carlson and second place went to Roger Huth.

In the flighted championships: Flight 1 winner is Dan Baran and runner up Steve Davison; Flight 2 winner is Tim Froedge and runner up Jim Murray; Flight 3 winner is Jerry Post and runner up Gary Mizzi.

Overall League Champion is Pat Milkovich and coming in second is Mark Combs.

Congratulations to all of the winners and thanks to all of the members who participated in this year’s event.

The LMGA treated Rocky Ford’s entire grounds keeping the golf course

Our second major event in March was Stag Day. A total of 96 golfers took to the links for a highly competitive day. The results were: Team Joe Wolcin, Bob Carlson, Pat Milkovich and Charlie Rainey in first place; in second place Team Joe Berg, Al Marsala, Jim Ferguson and Roger Leighty and in third place Team Dan Baran, Jerry Post, Guy Sharron and Kim Rzetelny.

The day wrapped up with an amazing steak dinner and lots of door prizes. Thanks to LMGA Vice President Joe Berg for organizing a terrific day for us.

Of note, our President Steve Hooper recognized that the “closest to

grounds crew to lunch to thank them for course in such great shape.

the pin” tape measures were wearing out and suggested that the association buy new tapes for all of the leagues to use. The new tapes are now in use and are far easier to read.

Last but certainly not least, the LMGA held a luncheon for Rocky Ford’s entire grounds crew at a local restaurant. We all owe Rocky and his crew a big “thank you” for the amazing conditions we enjoy every time we step up to the tee.

The Golf Corner – Meet Mark Wehrman

CAROL MILKOVICH AND CATHY STEEVES

Mark is our new Director of Golf at The Landings. It was our pleasure to sit and talk with him on his fourth day at The Landings to get a more complete picture of exactly who he is and why we are fortunate to have him here with us.

Mark Wehrman, the new Director of Golf

Mark played golf in both high school and college and started in the golf industry after he graduated. Mark worked as assistant golf professional at The Club at Pelican Bay and later as 1st Assistant at Olde Florida Golf Club in Naples before serving for several years as the General Manager at Eaglerock Golf Course in Billings, Montana, and then eventually as Head Golf Professional at Big Sky Resort in Big Sky, Montana.

His family lives here in the area and that led Mark and his wife Ginger to come back to Fort Myers where, most recently, Mark was the Director of Instruction at Top Golf in Fort Myers.

Mark told us he used to live in Naples and met his wife Ginger at the old Bonita Springs Greyhound Dog track. “She was playing poker, and I luckily got seated next to her. She told

me I talked funny and the rest is history. We got married on Fort Myers Beach. We loved Montana and our time working there, but the winters just were too harsh.” They started “snowbirding” here during his later years there.

They bought a place here in 2020, and while Mark went back to finish up in Montana, his wife stayed here, and he said, “She had to weather Hurricane Ian alone while I could only watch the storm on television!”

When we asked how he ended up applying at The Landings, he smiled and said, “I was giving lessons at Olde Corkscrew, stopped on way home for a beer, ran into an old friend, and he told me about the opening. Steve Carney called me the following day, and I put my resume together immediately. I knew it was a perfect fit for me.”

We asked what he has enjoyed about his first few days at The Landings, and he immediately said, “The members have made me feel so welcome by coming up to introduce themselves and welcome me to The Landings.”

In his first year here, he said, “While continuing the professionalism, I want to make some significant long-term changes to move The Landings forward, such as better communication with members, making some tournament changes, and giving more attention to detail.”

While working in Montana, he wrote articles for the Explorer Big Sky Montana, and he is looking forward to contributing articles for both the Newsletter and Happy Landings about upcoming events, golf tips on rules and etiquette, as well as ways to play better.

Mark also wants to improve our golf shop and merchandise and plans to have some major sales so be on the lookout for some advertisements for that.

When we asked how he would like to help new (and old) golfers with their games, he replied, “The only way to improve is to practice and play. I want to offer a variety of clinics, and more group clinics to break

the game down to fundamentals. I want to educate new members by offering not only a newsletter, but also by encouraging them to reach out and ask for help with rules and etiquette.”

We asked what he enjoys on his days off, and he said, “Ginger and I love to get out on the water, and we enjoy hopping on our jet ski. Occasionally, we get to play golf, and I recently took up pickleball, but won’t have much time for that now.”

In interviewing Mark, it is easy to see that he is excited to get back to a golf course fulltime and is looking forward to being at The Landings. He said, “I want to retire here.”

Mike Maile and Chris Jackson won the White Division Consolation Bracket of The Landing’s Cup Tennis Tournament on March 22. They lost their first match to the eventual champions.

Mike Maile, head tennis pro Bella Graf, and Chris Jackson.

However, they won their next two matches to win the consolation bracket. They played a total of 44 games of tennis in one day. Mike admitted that they were very sore and tired the next day. “Not bad for a 75-yearold,” Mike said.

FLAGSHIP

PATTIE

One does not have to look far in The Landings to discover the incredible talent of many of our residents. Flagship’s “artist in residence” Gretchen Phillips once again stole the show at the Fine Arts Competition by taking first place with her painting “Fruit Cocktail.” The depth of the colors in the painting was evident even to those of us who can barely draw a stick figure. Kathy Zielie also entered two unique pieces of art

Gretchen Phillips, First Place, Fine Arts Competition and “Egg” Lint Art (Above) by Kathy Zielie

with the help of Gretchen, which were created by gathering lint from the ladies of Flagship over the past year and molding them into sculptures of an egg (shown above the photo of the firstplace artwork) and pieces of fruit. Well done, ladies!

Bingo Winners Kathy Tyska, Carol Watson, Marilyn Collins and Kathy Zielie

The Flagship ladies had another big night at bingo. Kathy Tyska won for the second month in a row, along with Carol Watson, Marilyn Collins and, drumroll please, Kathy Zielie, who won $500 and has won in Bingo four times in a row over the last year or so. Is there something in the Flagship water???

They say that traveling leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller. Anne and Jim Murray returned after 22 days

cruising and sightseeing from Argentina, around Cape Horn, to Chile. Starting in Buenos Aires, they visited the Presidential Palace where Eva Peron gave her impassioned speeches to the poor. Visiting a cattle ranch outside the city, they were entertained by gauchos who showcased their equestrian skills, tasted their first Argentinian barbecue, and later experienced the passion and elegance of the tango.

Other stops included the Falkland Islands where Great Britain and Argentina fought a war in 1982 and lovely beaches where penguins thrived. The Chilean fjords, glaciers, and snowcapped volcanoes were spectacular as well as the vibrant city of Santiago. What a trip of a lifetime!

For nearly two decades, Lissy has called Florida home. Originally from Peru, she has worked tirelessly to create stability for her family. Now, as the 2025 Women Build homebuyer, she’s taking a major step toward homeownership.

Women Build empowers women-led households by rallying women and men together to create safe and affordable housing. Like others, Lissy has faced housing instability— moving frequently, sharing space, and navigating financial hurdles. But through Habitat’s program, she is working toward a brighter future for her family.

He did it again! Patrick Milkovich won the LMGA golf tournament on March 15. This year the Championship Flight featured three rounds of stroke play, keeping a cumulative score with no handicap. After the first two rounds, Patrick was trailing a very tough competitor, Mark Combs, by five strokes. Patrick told the ESPN film crew after his victory, “That final round was a real battle. Gail Campbell has been photographing eagles for years. She found this nest in a dead slash pine tree across from Pickle & Pub on old McGregor Road. ARIEL

New

Record Set at Ariel

By now it must be clear to readers that Ariel residents enjoy getting together to eat, drink and be merry. The latest occasion was on Sunday, March 23, when a record-breaking 107 people turned out on that beautiful day for the Spring Fling Potluck BBQ.

The weather was wonderful for the Spring Fling Potluck BBQ.

Ariel’s Social Committee, headed by chair Jan Helyer, provided hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwursts and rolls as well as beer, wine, watermelon vodka cocktails, and water. Participants were free to bring their own beverage of choice as well as a potluck dish to share. They responded by bringing all types of appetizers, salads and desserts that were enjoyed by all.

Wonderful appetizers, side dishes, and desserts were prepared by residents to add to the hamburgers, hot dogs and bratwursts supplied by the Social Committee.

The party began at 5 p.m. on Ariel’s beautiful wraparound pool deck, located on the second floor of the 18-story building. The deck, measuring a gracious 40,000 square feet, was completely renovated with porcelain pavers surrounding the large pool and concrete pavers everywhere else.

Spring Fling event attracted 107 Ariel residents who thoroughly enjoyed

The
the party.

The deck also features very large concrete planters that were part of the building’s original design. Triple Christmas palms anchor the beds and are up-lighted all night, which lends an elegant air to the space.

Coral creeper, a flowering ground cover, Taiwanese red ixora, and fragrant gardenias that bloom in profusion at this time of year are among the plants that create the beautiful garden beds. In the largest planter, Nora Grant ixora and green island ficus are added to the base plantings mentioned above.

Residents had such a good time getting together that the party continued until dusk.

LONGBOAT

That stunning backdrop and friendly neighbors are just two of the reasons Ariel residents are always eager to get together. The owners consider themselves very lucky to live in such a delightful place.

The planters on the huge deck are filled with beautiful flowering and fragrant ground cover, shrubs and palms.

Pool Party: Special thanks to our hosts, Lindy and Rick Worrall and Phyllis Holley for the Corned Beef and Cabbage and to Ann Spang for the Sloppy Joes and Buns. What a great turnout: 55 people showed up for this Irish tradition, with very special drinks made by Joe and Jen Bavender.

The weather was beautiful for the Pool Party at Longboat Village.

Of course, we cannot forget to thank CeCe Loper who keeps everyone informed about these events and who coordinates what food people are bringing.

Lots of guests sported green clothing for Longboat’s Corned Beef and Cabbage feast.

Tree Missing: Due to water flow issues at 4656 S. Landings (Steve and Judy Davison’s home), a tree was removed, and stump grinding removed the base. As a heads up to everyone, as these trees mature and press on our water pipes and sewer drains, we can expect additional removals. Please let our Board or Management Company know if you are experiencing problems. As a reminder to our snowbirds, always be sure to secure your water heater and water to your home when you leave for the summer.

Congratulations: To Nastasha Benchimol for accepting a position on the Bridge for the Landings Yacht Club (Assistant Fleet Captain). We are all thrilled to have you on board and know that one day you will make a great Commodore. And, of course, thank you to Alan Power, our retiring LYC Commodore.

New Residents/Renters: Stephen Adkins and Sandra Essex have leased 4661 S. Landings from January to April. Thomas and Melanie Stone bought 4631 S. Landings and leased it for a year to Demery Smith and Anne Super. Scott and Lauretta Dustin have moved from Longboat Village (4666 S. Landings) and over to Riverside. We wish them both the best. Long time resident Phyllis Holley (4611 S. Landings) sold her home to Doug and Judi Pelton and moved into Scott and Laurette’s vacancy. Welcome to all our new residents. Please come to our pool parties and meet your village neighbors.

Time to go: It has been quiet here the last few weeks, and now we are at the end of season in Fort Myers. So, on that note, this will be my last article for Longboat Village. It has been my pleasure to write these articles over the last couple of years. I would like to thank everyone that made a contribution. If anyone is interested in taking over the Longboat Village articles, please reach out and I can turn over the reins.

Love is in the air! Congratulations to Mary Kay O’Hara and Jessie Shipp on their recent engagement that was celebrated along with Mardi Gras on Shrove Tuesday. We wish them health and happiness in their life together.

Left to right: Paul Rohner, Dennis McAuley, Peter Dahlin, John Dugan, Jack Hester, Mike Mundo, Al Annunziata, Michael Garguilo, Lynn Bragg, and Casey Homick are enjoying the “Men’s Bar” at the Mardi Gras Party.

After Mardi Gras, we had a very well attended St. Patrick’s Day Party and the weather could not have been better. Thanks to Mike and Alison Reardon for organizing a successful raffle and announcing our tables to keep things orderly.

Theresa Harris, Diane Lee, Linda Oleksa, Anne Farrell, Denise McNamara, Diane Rohner, Darlene Kratz, Cindy Benedict and Ann Marie Annunziata. Thanks to our decorating volunteers that made our St. Patrick’s Day Party look so festive.

The food and desserts were outstanding. The singing was a treat! Thanks to the cooks, the bakers, the set up and take down, those who cleaned up, the people that donated gifts, and everyone who bought raffle tickets.

Diane Dugan was thrilled to enjoy the company of her two beautiful granddaughters, Tierrah and Emily, at the St. Patrick’s Day Party.

Alison Reardon,
Hester,

Kathy Langton received an award at the 9-Hole Women’s Awards luncheon, for a hole-in-one on the first hole. This was her second hole-in-one; she says it’s all luck, but wow!

The flag was way back, and she didn’t see it go in, but a taller player watched it ring the cup and fall in. Kathy also won closest to the pin at the event, a sad reality for the player who landed two inches from the hole.

Pattie Parrett also scored a hole-in-one, on the third hole.

TRAWLER

Seasonal Farewell

As the season winds down, we want to wish all our friends and neighbors heading north a safe journey and a wonderful summer. It’s been a great season here in Trawler Village—full of laughter, music, and community spirit. We look forward to welcoming you back in the fall, rested and ready for another season of fun.

Margarita Party Recap

The annual Trawler Village Margarita Party was a great success! Patti and I had a wonderful time and were joined by fellow residents LeRoy and Ann Fleming and Rob and Patty Smith.

New Car Wash Station

Thanks to the efforts of Perry Maness, a new car washing station is now available between buildings 4585 and 4591. This area is a designated no-parking zone and is available for residents to wash their vehicles. Please remember that vehicle maintenance in the parking lots is limited to tire changes and battery installations only. All other repairs should be handled off-site.

Walkway Reminders

Entertainment was provided by “Line by Line Productions,” featuring music from Cheri and Neil who have been entertaining groups in Southwest Florida since 1999. The duo inspired many residents to get up and dance.

As always, a big thank you to the Trawler volunteers who helped set up tables and chairs, and to everyone who contributed to the potluck meal. The food and the company were outstanding!

Residents are kindly reminded that items such as golf carts, bicycles, wheelchairs, and similar items should not be left in walkways, especially in the four-story buildings. Bicycles should be stored in racks or inside your unit. All other items should also be kept indoors. Keeping the walkways clear helps ensure safe and unobstructed access for everyone.

Stairway Repairs at 4585 and 4574

Stair tread repairs identified in the Milestone and SIRS Study will begin shortly at buildings 4585 and 4574. At least one stairway will remain accessible at all times during construction. Please do not use any stairway actively under repair.

Summer Paving Ahead

Paving work in the Trawler Village parking lots is expected to take place this summer. If you plan to leave your vehicle behind while away, please make sure a spare key is accessible. If cars need to be moved during paving and no key is available, towing may be required at the owner’s expense.

One brave male dancer was happy to join the ladies.

Guest Registration Reminder

If you’ll have guests staying in your unit while you’re away, please complete a Notice of Guest in Residence form. These are available on the Alliant website.

Website Transition

Please note that Trawler Village updates will soon move entirely to the Alliant portal. The Landings website will no longer be used for Trawler-specific announcements. If you haven’t registered on the Alliant portal,

now is a great time to do so. If you need help, contact Luc for assistance.

Next Month

While many neighbors head north, life in Trawler Village doesn’t come to a full stop. Stay tuned for our June edition, where we’ll check in on summer improvements, highlight who’s staying behind, and maybe even spotlight a few year-round faces you’ve never met.
