Spring Break

We spent spring break in Winston-Sa em NC partnered with Spark 'Dwe , serving our ne ghbors on the margins. We were jo ned by a group from Northern State University. What was your favorite part?
I loved how there were educationa opportunities to supp ement our activities Organiz ng a coat c oset and making a meal for peop e is good, but t limits what we get from the experience ( t’s almost like a onetime dea ) The learning opportunities helped give context to why home essness exists and provided a safe space to converse with each other about our thoughts These learning opportunities took the next step to g ve us more tools to take back w th us and start conversations w th our communities
What would you say to encourage someone to go on a ULC spring break trip next year?
Go on the trip! You’re go ng to get so much out of it
It s a chance for you to travel!
It s a chance to bond with people from the ULC on a deeper level There is someth ng great about the bond sleeping on air mattresses in a church and hanging out with people for an entire week creates. It s also a chance to cha lenge our way of thinking.
It s also ust a chance to put into perspective how lucky we are and recognize everyth ng we take for granted When we came back and I had the chance to go to Walmart for groceries, take a good shower, and s eep in my bed I felt very grateful for everything I have
Camp Staff Scholarships

I am a product of outdoor ministry. I spent m summers in college working for Lutherans Outdoors in South Dakota. At the time I don t think ever considered how much money I could make if had a non-camp ob, but as I have become wiser I recognize the dispar ty between working a $15 an hour job for 40 hours a week over the summer Most summer camp staff make ha f of that Of course th reap a ton of benef ts over flipping burge at the loca eatery but co lege ife still co them the same amount of money Last summer we started giving students that a act ve at the ULC a scho arsh p at the completion of their summer work ng at an ELCA camp Our counci initia y sa d $50 but the generosity of oca congregations al owed us to doub e that! We gave FIVE scholarships of $1,000 each. Th s year we have seven camp staff n total, and FOUR e gible scholarsh p app icants. Can you h us gift them each with $1,000 scholarships at the end of their summer serving God in creat on?
