2018 Finance Officer of the Year Goes to...
The following was read by Dawn Murphy, SDGFOA President and City of Tea Finance Officer, when presenting the Award.
“The highlight of our luncheon today is honoring our Finance Officer of the Year.
Our independent judges, once again, found it very difficult to pick a winner as all were very deserving. Each nomination highlighted the contributions the Finance Officers make to their communities through the endless hours they put in both professionally and personally.
This year’s winner has made countless contributions to their city as finance officer. They have overseen the implementation of new computer software, which has resulted in drastic improvement in the efficiency and accuracy of the city finance department and has overseen a number of major city projects involving equipment updates, water and sewer updates and an airport upgrade. This person has been a shining example of poise and calm in a position that is frequently challenging and tumultuous. This person’s passion for serving the community is demonstrated by their membership in a number of roles in the community, in particular those that involve this person’s children. This person is always excited to support new ventures and programs within the community. When this person sees something that can be improved, they will find a way to make it happen!

This person always maintains a positive attitude that motivates those around her and is never afraid to tackle a problem head on. Following a challenging medical diagnosis, this person was determined to live life to the fullest. This person, after finding a way to manage their diagnosis through maintenance of a healthy lifestyle, became determined to help others reach their own health goals. This person is an amazing example of hard work and perseverance in both personal and professional life.
I am extremely honored to be presenting the 2018 Finance Officer of the Year Award to Sheila Coss of Miller.”
