2017 Finance Officer of the Year Goes to...

The following was read by Jennifer Eimers, SDGFOA President and City of Madison Finance Officer, when presenting the Award.

“The highlight of our luncheon today is honoring our Finance Officer of the Year.

We had an unprecedented 17 nominations for Finance Officer of the Year! Our independent judges, once again, found it very difficult to pick a winner as all were very deserving. Each nomination highlighted the contributions the Finance Officers make to their communities through the endless hours they put in both professionally and personally.

This year’s winner had so many nominations and accolades that it was difficult to narrow it all down to a speech and not leave anything out. Several members of the city council, many community members and a great number of the individual’s peers wrote letters of support that reflect this person’s accomplishments and commitment to moving their city forward.

This finance officer has been working for over 38 years in their city. According to the nomination narrative, this person is a “jack of all trades” when it comes to city affairs. This person has taught city leaders that it takes patience and planning to make changes. This person is a strong and decisive leader who always puts the organization first, does all the background work for city business and always shares the limelight with others.

Al Cerny, Finance Officer from Gregory was the award recipient and Jennifer Eimers, President of SDGFOA and Finance Officer from Madison presented the award.

This finance officer has an open door policy when it comes to citizens coming in to discuss city matters or other issues that may not be city related. This person has a genuine passion for how folks feel and wants them to leave feeling good or more informed about the matter which they came in for.

As a veteran finance officer, this person has used their professional knowledge and leadership to reach out to new finance officers and show them the ropes when it comes to their new position.

This person’s personal commitment to the community over the years includes involvement in organizations including the church, volunteer fire department, Knights of Columbus, and leadership on the local business development group.

I am extremely honored to be presenting the 2017 Finance Officer of the Year Award to Al Cerny of Gregory.” JULY 2017
