This year, thanks to National Lottery funds, we’re running free fringe events so from June 4th, a Beekeeping Talk, a Free From Baking workshop and a River Forage will be held in and around Sudbury with free talks on June 10th from 11am in the Fringe Tent by chocolate sculptors, mushroom growers and more!

The fabulous kitchen theatre has an amazing line up of top chefs demonstrating how to make sourdough, cooking from foraged finds and a butchery masterclass. Thirty stalls will fill Market Hill selling award winning jams, top quality sausages, culinary fresh herbs plus locally distilled gins and vodkas. There’ll be

horseboxes selling Mac and Cheese, wood fired pizzas, Prosecco, seafood, and inside St Peter’s a wonderful selection of local, small scale producers.

Entry to the event is totally free. Parking in town is free or use our free Park and Ride bus operating between Delphi Car Park, Newton Road, Sudbury, CO10 2RR and St Peter’s every 15 minutes from 10am-4pm.

HEAT STROKE

Proper diet is crucial to a pet’s healthy and happy development and long term quality of life, and it can often make a critical difference to managing illness. The vets and nurses work as a team to ensure that our patients’ dietary programs are as good as they possibly can be.

All our nurses are either fully qualified and listed with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, or in training to become so. As such they are fully trained in pet nutrition.

They are therefore able to answer any questions you may have, and they do additional training to ensure they are fully up to date with latest thinking and products.

If you have any questions about your pets’ feeding, or would like to check that what you are feeding will give your pet the best quality of life, please give one of our nurses a phone call, or book a free nutrition clinic.

There is always a lot of news coverage about dogs being left in cars in hot weather. We’ve been lucky enough at our practice not to have encountered many cases of heat stroke. The advice is always the same, but it is easy to forget how hot it can get inside a car and how quickly it can occur. Temperatures can reach over 50°C and dogs can die from heatstroke in as little as 20 minutes.

It is very important never to leave a dog unattended in the car in warm weather, even with the window open and water present, they can still suffer with heatstroke very quickly.

When embarking on a car journey with a pet on board, make sure they have somewhere to sit away from the sunlight, allow them plenty of access to water and take regular breaks for fresh air. Also take into account if the animal has underlying health or disease which may make the situation worse.

The same applies for exercising dogs; try to do this at the coolest part of the day i.e. the early morning or evening. If it is hot for us to exercise or sit in the sun it will be so for your dog also.

Remember they can only really lose heat by panting and they are always wearing a fur coat!!

AUGUST Sat 4th August: SUDBURY ROWING CLUB 138th INTERNATIONAL REGATTA, 8:30am-8pm. The Sudbury Regatta is a rowing event held annually on the first Saturday of August each year on the beautiful River Stour on Friars Meadow in Sudbury. The 650m rowing course is raced upstream from a stake boat start along a course characterised by some challenging bends. Racing can be viewed along the Friars Meadow stretch of the river and we have a refreshment tent, licensed bar, BBQ & hog roast, live music and children’s activities on offer.
