Leavingasidethespiritualopaqueness(orinplainEnglish:mumbo-jumbo)ofteninvolved whendefiningthewordTransfiguration,weareleftwithasimpleexplanation:afigureor characterintransit,undergoingseveralchangesenroute.Whichalsodefinesmusic,where arecognizablethemeisbeinghauledthroughthe“wringer”ofdevelopment. Whichisthecaseinthepresentpiece,orpieces,tobeprecise.Thefirstbarsineachofthe twomovementsarealmostidentical,butthejourneys–ortransits,howeverthematically related-aredifferent-butnotdramaticallyso,they´retwosidesofthesamecoin. Anothersortoftransitisafootinthepiece,therelayrunofthevariousrecorders,from tenortosopranotoaltotosopraninoandbackagain. It´snotavirtuosicsoloconcertointheclassicalsense,recorderandstringsaremutually interwoven,butmakenomistake:thesolopartdoesstandoutfromthecrowd(politely put).
