COMPOSER´S NOTE
Tenderness is a study in sound. Though imperceptible, immaterial and ephemeral, tenderness provides sustenance for all humankind. We all need tenderness – yet many never receive it. Alternating in the work are different jingling and gossamer textures that gradually converge into timbral clouds before finally dispersing in a down-to-earth hymn. I wrote the piece for the Fifth International Maj Lind Piano Competition 2022, with our smallest baby boy in my lap.
O.T.NOTATION
Tempo markings and pedallings: many factors can affect the choice of tempi and pedallings. The metronome marks shown and the specified pedallings are approximate, for guidance only. Use the pedal according the nature of the textures, trying to create plenty of resonance.
Accidentals apply throughout the bar. The grace notes with a crossing line should be played before the beat. The grace notes without the crossing line should be played on the beat.
