Video Equipment list: 1

Cameras: Five mini cameras with composite video output. At least three with reversible flip out LCD screens.

Mountings: Suitable slim tripod stands and adjustable “magic arm” type mountings with Arri superclamps for mounting the cameras.

Microphone stands with suitable screw adaptors are often the best solution. All mounts should be equipped with ball leveling heads for ease of adjustment.

Lighting notes: Position 1: 1 meter square blue spotlight Position 2: 0.3 meter square blue spotlight (covering typewriter only). A spotlight must be placed in the stand of the water basin, facing up, to illuminate the basin.

Vision mixer: Vision mixer with synchronized inputs and freeze facility.

A four input mixer is adequate if equipped with a changeover on the input of one channel. The Panasonic MX20 or MX50 digital vision mixers are suitable.

Lighting for video effects: Three “minipar” or similar lights with dimmers for use at the video effexts position. Small anglepoise type desk lamps can also be used.

Monitors: Minimum of two small monitors. These should be between 9 and 14 inches and have video inputs and looped outputs.

Video projector: Large video projector required to throw an image onto a screen at the rear of the stage. The screen should be as large as possible - normally at least 7m wide. The light output should be as high as possible. The Barco ELM12 with 12,000 lumen output is best. If this is not available the projector used should be at least 7,000 lumens (Barcodata 9600 or similar). This projector must be placed so that the noise of its fans is not obtrusive for the audience.

Position 3: 2 by 3 meter spotlight (bright).

Position 4: 1.2 meter square blue spotlight. Bright spotlight placed on the floor or on a light stand next to position 4.

Position 5: 0.8 by 2 meter blue and red spotlights.

Conductor: The podium must be lit with a bright spot the same size and shape of the podium. The conductor’s score must also be lit.

Timebase corrector: It is advisable to use a timebase corrector and distribution amplifier to feed the output to the projector.

Video artist position: Two large tables are required for the video artist on stage right. (These carry the mixing and preview equipment and a camera, lights and large water bowl to create the video effects.)

Various: Ample video, audio, electrical, and all associated cabling as needed. 5 long video cables (30m) should be included.

Microphones: One microphone for amplification of the watergong and water effects. A wireless microphone system should be used for the voices of the conductor and puppeteer.

Notes Mike Newman usually provides items 1, 2, and 4. He can also provide item 3 but because of the high cost of excess baggage he usually tries to obtain this locally.

All lights, including those on the musician’s stands, must be controllable for dimming and blacking out.

Lighting cues: 0 When the audience arrives, the musicians should be in their places tuning and the house lights should be at 50%.
