EVENT CALENDAR

Scissortail Park Foundation

Scissortail Park is managed by Scissortail Park Foundation under a public-private partnership with the City of Oklahoma City. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that manages and operates the Park. The Foundation is also responsible for raising funds to support the Park’s operating costs through donations, sponsorships, earned revenue, and by growing a permanent endowment for the Park’s long-term future.

From the CEO

I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks for the warm welcome I’ve received here in Oklahoma City since arriving in March from Minnesota. I’m excited to immerse myself in the vibrant spirit of this wonderful community.

As we look ahead, I’m thrilled about the upcoming events and opportunities to connect with all of you. Scissortail Park is more than just a place—it’s a space where memories are made, creativity is nurtured, and connections thrive. I look forward to contributing to its continued growth and ensuring it remains a dynamic hub for everyone.

Whether you’re playing pickleball in Lower Park, enjoying a pint during Pubs in the Park in Upper Park, taking a morning stroll through the Farmers Market, or listening to the great sounds from the Love’s Travel Stops Stage & Great Lawn, there is something this season for everyone. It’s an exciting time to be part of the Scissortail family, and I look forward to sharing in these experiences with you all.

Lake Tom McDaniel

In recognition of 14 years of dedicated service and leadership, the Oklahoma City Council unanimously named Scissortail Park’s lake in honor of Tom McDaniel on June 18, 2024.

As chair of the MAPS 3 Citizen Advisory Board, Mr. McDaniel guided eight transformative projects funded by the MAPS 3 penny sales tax, including the creation of Scissortail Park.

Lake Tom McDaniel stands as a lasting tribute to his legacy of service to Oklahoma City.

Mitchell’s Shade For Everyone

Community Tree Giveaway

Saturday, April 12, 2025 | 9am Union Station Lawn, Upper Park

Mitchell’s Shade, is a community program designed to bring people together to celebrate life, honor a loved one, and put a bit of color, shade, and oxygen back into our world through a tree giveaway at Scissortail Park.

Scissortail Park’s Mitchell’s Shade tree giveaway is made possible by the vision and generous support of Melanie and John Burns. The Burns family established Mitchell’s Shade Endowment to fund an annual tree giveaway in honor and memory of their son Mitchell.

Approximately 1,200 three-gallon trees and 300 18-inch seedlings will be provided to the community to take home and plant in honor of a loved one and to spread comfort, joy, inspiration, and a canopy of shade for years to come for everyone.

While at the tree giveaway, be sure to visit the Seeds for Hope Gallery inside the Colonnade at Union Station to see John Rex Elementary School’s student artwork. Seeds for Hope is a Mitchell’s Shade scholarship program for Oklahoma City students. Under the direction of Mitchell’s Shade, Seeds for Hope awards scholarships to 3rd through 8th grade students enrolled in Title I schools in Oklahoma City.

THE MARKETS

New season with two weekly Farmers Markets!

Scissortail Park’s Farmers Markets are producer-only markets, meaning all vendors must raise, grow, or make their own products. Shoppers can expect to find a diverse selection of fresh produce, meats, dairy, baked goods, artisanal products, and more—all sourced from local farmers, ranchers, producers, breweries, and artisans across Oklahoma. In addition to shopping, guests can enjoy live music and wellness activities at each market event.

The Farmers Market Information Tent is available for shoppers to visit with Park staff, purchase Scissortail Park merchandise, and find information on the nutrition assistance programs the market offers including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Assistance Program (SFMNP), and Double Up Oklahoma (DUO).

Scissortail Park Farmers Market is supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service,* Bank of Oklahoma, and Midtown Renaissance.

*Funding for the Farmers Market at Scissortail Park was made possible by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service through grant AM22FMPPOK1095-00. Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of the USDA.
