2012 APS Election for Vice President and Councilor-at-Large

Beginning May 2, APS members have the opportunity to vote in the 2012 APS election. Members can make their selections through May 31, 2012. The APS Nominations Committee is pleased to announce that A. Rick Bennett, University of Arkansas, and James J. Marois, University of Florida, are running for vice president of APS. Candidates for councilor-at-large are Margaret E. Daub, North Carolina State University, and Mary E. Palm, USDA APHIS Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ). Read the profiles and statements of vision for these new candidates for office beginning on page 76 of this issue. In addition, this year the election will include a constitutional amendment regarding simplification of the guidelines for APS to establish and maintain affiliates with other plant pathology societies as well as representatives to other organizations. APS members were sent a broadcast e-mail on May 2, 2012, with instructions for voting (members without an e-mail address were sent letters). Ballots must be submitted by May 31, 2012. Remember, all votes are confidential. Please contact Cindy Scheller (cscheller@scisoc.org) if you did not receive an e-mail. Results of the 2012 election will be announced in the July issue of Phytopathology News and on APSnet. Every vote matters—cast your ballot by May 31, 2012. n
Plant Disease Management Reports (PDMR) Accepting Second Submissions for Volume 6 As in the past, PDMR is publishing two installments, allowing authors to submit reports twice a year. Second submissions are due to the editorin-chief for assignment by May 14, 2012. Publication charges are $40 per report and are payable with submission of the final approved report by July 16, 2012. Capture It on Camera and Win $500! The 2012 Video Contest is underway. Have you filmed your award-winning video yet? This year, we have three categories to choose from: It’s a Microbial World After All, Central Concepts in Plant Pathology, and, new this year, What Is a Plant Pathologist? This contest is a great way for students and professionals to show the world the importance of plant pathology and have fun doing it! Leadership Training Opportunities for 2012 APS and the Leadership Institute will offer several leadership training opportunities at the 2012 Annual Meeting in Providence, RI.
