2023 2024 Discover the Concert Season
Bringing music to life.
Welcome to the 2023 2024 Schulich School of Music concert season! Get ready for an amazing year of events! Bookmark our online events calendar ( bit.ly/SSoMEvents). Subscribe to our newsletter ( bit.ly/SchulichNewsletter) to stay in the know about all our activities.
A live performance is unforgettable. Through the combined power of rhythm, melody, harmony, and timbre, musicians invite us to connect, to feel, and to find escape from the everyday. Experience something new, be invigorated, and uncover a world of sound.
For the first time, some large ensemble concerts will be free and, to inspire exploration, we’re offering curated ticket packages featuring several performances in the Fall and Winter (see page 41). Hear the Wind Orchestra in September and a Jazz Orchestra in October, catch the premiere of a student composer’s work in November with the Contemporary Music Ensemble, and go back in time with the Baroque Orchestra in December. Then, come back in January and try a different selection of concerts. We’ll make sure you’re all set for a year of discovery with performances equal to those of any worldclass concert venue.
We’re delighted to present concerts with
partners on and off the island of Montreal: McGill Chamber Jazz Ensemble will perform in Toronto in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre; we’re collaborating with the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur to present our series at the Canadian Centre for Architecture; and Opera McGill returns to the beloved Monument-National for Massenet’s Cendrillon
We remain committed to offering a wide variety of free musical events. Enjoy small ensembles, class concerts, research presentations, student recitals, guest lectures, and masterclasses throughout the season. Join us in person or online for the Wirth Vocal Prize, the Golden Violin Award, and our Chamber and Concerto Competitions. Be the first to discover some of the most promising young performers in North America.
It’s time to explore Schulich and make some space for music. Let our talented students, faculty members and guest artists share their art with you.
What you have in front of you is a sneak peek of public events happening at the Schulich School of Music. Whether you are a fan of opera, big bands, symphonies, chamber ensembles, solo recitals, or contemporary works, we have something for everyone. Get ready for an exciting year of music!
