Find out all about what our wonderful students have been up to during the last half-term in the final Tottington Times of this school year.
Year 11 Results Day is on Thursday 21st August 2025. The school will be open from 9am to 11am for students to collect their GCSE Results.
There will be plenty of staff on hand to help you through the next steps, including guidance about colleges and post-16 courses.
Students need to attend in person. If you are unable to, please contact the school to let us know so that we can discuss alternative arrangements with you.
We cannot wait to see you to celebrate your achievements.
We’re excited to invite our students and families to coming to our Stay Connected Event on Friday 29th August, 10am-12pm here at THS! This is a relaxed and friendly opportunity for our new and existing students who are worried about returning to school after a school break. This is an opportunity to stay connected with your school environment and routines, before the term officially begins.
Why are we holding this event?
Transitions can bring mixed emotions— excitement, uncertainty, even a bit of anxiety. By offering a gentle reintroduction to school life, we aim to:
• Ease nerves by re-familiarising students with the school environment
• Build social connections after time away
• Support emotional well-being through a low-pressure, positive experience
• Boost readiness for learning by helping students feel more confident and settled
The event will include opportunities to meet key staff, have a tour of the school, and ask questions in a supportive setting. Parents and carers are warmly encouraged to attend too!
Let’s make the start of the new school year a positive one—together.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Members of the student leadership team continued THS’s partnership with Abbeywood Care Home when they visited recently to undertake a range of gardening activities with residents. They also had time for refreshments and a chat with residents.
Abbeywood supports residents with a range of complex needs including dementia. During the visit, staff informed students about how gardening can offer significant benefits for individuals with dementia, providing sensory stimulation, promoting physical activity, and fostering a sense of purpose and connection to nature.
Our partnership with Abbeywood is intergenerational and provides a fantastic opportunity for students to meet and support people from our local community from different demographics across society.
On Wednesday 18th June, teaching and support staff were recognised for the fantastic role that they play each day in educating and supporting our students at THS.
Members of the student leadership team delivered thank you cards and chocolate bars to every member of staff in school today in recognition of National Thank a teacher Day.
Thanks to all members of our student leadership team for facilitating this fantastic initiative.
Tottington High School has formed a partnership with their local Crown Green Bowling club. Students have been attending Tottington Crown Green Bowling Club located on Town Meadow Park within the village on a weekly basis throughout the summer term. During the sessions students have received expert coaching from members of the club.
Although often perceived as a sport for older generations, Crown Green bowling offers several benefits for young people, including promoting positive physical and mental well-being. Personal Development teacher, Mr Wilson commented; “Our partnership with Tottington Crown Green bowling club has fostered intergenerational friendships.”
“It has been an absolute privilege to see our students and members of the bowling club in both a sporting and social context.”
“After each session, members provide refreshments and snacks for students where there is plenty of collective chat and laughter together.”
“I would really like to thank all of the members of the club for making our students feel so welcome and we look forward to continuing our partnership.”
A cohort of students from the Y10 student leadership team visited The University of Manchester during the summer term.
The students attended lectures focusing on culture within leadership and society which supported with their whole school student leadership development,
Furthermore, the students received a presentation along with a question-and-answer session delivered by University of Manchester Ambassadors focussing on the range of university courses available, the UCAS application process and information about student finance and halls of residence.
After the lecture and presentation, students enjoyed lunch within the university grounds and a tour of the campus where they visited a range of buildings including the student union, halls of residences, faculty buildings, graduation halls, the museum and aquatics centre.
Well done to the KS3 students that have been producing “Sweet dispensers” in Design Technology this term. They have been demonstrating their independence when measuring, marking out, cutting, drilling and sanding. It was also great to see them learning about thermoplastics and the vacuum forming process.
At KS4, Engineering Design students have been sketching ideas for a photo display stand and applying their rendering techniques too. Lovely to see creative solutions! Year 9 have been creating customised bird boxes. Hopefully, the birds will appreciate their efforts.
Four of our KS3 students competed at Derby High School in the Rotary Club Technology Tournament, which tasks students to design a solution to an Engineering challenge using limited equipment. They know nothing of the challenge before the day so they need to think on their feet to complete the task during the morning. In the afternoon, they test their design in front of the judges. This year’s challenge was to create a launch device that could be activated from 1 metre away and send a projectile through a hoop, over 3 metres in height. Students were interviewed by the judges throughout the day and awarded points on their answers. Well done to our group, who performed brilliantly, were placed in the top 5 teams, and were a credit to the school.
Y10 Health & Social Care students have had two workshops with local companies this half term to enhance their knowledge and understanding of Health and Social Care Services. The first session was with Persona Social Care explored the health condition of Dementia and how social care services support individuals living with this disease. The second session was with BARDOC Health Care which explored the stages of healthcare services, how care providers manage the health conditions of Asthma and Type 2 Diabetes and the barriers that prevent an individual from accessing health care services.
We’re thrilled to announce that THS has been named a Finalist for School/College of the Year at the 2025 @ UKSocialMobilityAwards (SOMOs)!
This prestigious recognition celebrates the incredible work our students do in the local community, alongside the wide range of personal development opportunities made possible by our dedicated staff.
A special shout-out goes to Mr Wilson, whose passion and commitment have been key in opening up so many of these life-changing opportunities for our students. We couldn’t be prouder of his efforts and the positive impact he continues to make.
We’re now counting down to October 2nd, when the winners will be announced – wish us luck!
