YEAR 6 HOMEWORK This year, we will be doing something different with the usual weekly homework. We are hoping that this will give children and families more flexibility regarding when homework is handed in and also give children the opportunity to enjoy learning through the wider curriculum. Our focus this half term is “Back to School” and “Autumn”. Here is the homework for this half term: READING – 30 minutes daily. Children should have their reading journal in school every day and are encouraged to use the comprehension section at the front of the journals to think further about their reading. SPELLING – each Friday there will be a spelling test. The children will receive spellings each week on a Monday after the spelling pattern has been introduced. MATHS - Weekly Clic, Safe and Learn It ***Very soon the children will have a login for a new, online maths homework. DETAILS TO FOLLOW HOMEWORK PROJECT – See below for the 6 activities that make up this half term’s homework project. They need to be completed and handed in on or before Friday 12th October 2018. These activities can be done in any order and will be shared in class after the deadline. They can be handed in inside the purple homework book or by email to info@stjohnsrc.net with the subject as your child’s name and class. • Design a poster or create a powerpoint about the uses of the semi colon • Make a comic strip on the story of transisiton from Saul to Paul linked to our religion theme • Research the life of Emmeline Pankhurst and her role in securing votes for women • Using recycled materials make a version of parliament • Find out ten facts about The Suffragettes • Research the democracy of a foreign country • Write a letter to our local MP about an issue that needs addressing in our local areaDO NOT SEND THIS LETTER-BRING IT IN FOR A CLASS DISCUSSION
