YEAR 4 HOMEWORK This year, we will be doing something different with the usual weekly homework. We are hoping that this will give children and families more flexibility regarding when homework is handed in and also give children the opportunity to enjoy learning through the wider curriculum. Our focus this half term is “Back to School” and “Autumn”. Here is the homework for this half term: READING - EVERY night for a minimum of 20 minutes. Children should have their reading journal in school every day and are encouraged to use the comprehension section at the front of the journals to think further about their reading. SPELLING – each Friday there will be a spelling test using the weekly spellings below. MATHS - ***Very soon the children will have a login for a new, online maths homework. DETAILS TO FOLLOW HOMEWORK ACTIVITIES– See below for the 4 activities that make up this half term’s homework project. They need to be completed and handed in on or before Friday 12th October 2018. These activities can be done in any order and will be shared in class after the deadline. • •

Design a poster which illustrates one or more of our 6 core values at St John’s (love, joy, respect, resilience, gratitude, kindness) Write a prayer asking God to bless you and support you during the coming year. Think about how you might present your prayer (in a shape, with a picture, as a poem etc). Is there anything specific you would like help with? Imagine you are playing in the park when your ball rolls into some bushes. As you go to get the ball, you find yourself lost. Write a short story describing what happens next. Write an acrostic poem for Autumn (a 6 line poem where each line begins with a letter – which all spell out A-U-T-U-MN) Year 4 Spellings Autumn 1 Focus
