Year 2 Autumn 2 Information Dear Parents / Carers, Welcome back after the half term holiday. We hope you and your families enjoyed the break. We are about to start one of our busiest half terms, also known as “the season of glitter and glue”! Soon there will be rousing voices coming from the Key Stage One Hall as rehearsals begin and your children will be coming home practising their songs for the Christmas Perfomances! We hope you find the following information useful for the forthcoming half term. Curriculum: Religion: We will be learning about: Prayer – Shabbat Preparations – Advent – preparing to celebrate Christmas A reminder that the 12 o’clock mass at St. John’s is our family mass and Father McMahon loves to see the children celebrate being part of our very special St. John’s family. All warmly welcome!
English:Our work this half term will be based around the book Where The Poppies Now Grow by Hilary Robinson and Martin Impey. We will be sharing this book in class, using it to support our art work and our writing. We will be writing a variety of genres including diary extracts and letters. If you have this book at home, feel free to bring it for your child to read along with in class. Phonics & Punctuation, Spelling and Grammar (SPAG):Spelling strategies, punctuation and grammar will be taught daily. Please check your child’s reading card for notes on phonemes or words to be looking for in reading books. In addition, please keep revisiting past spellings to ensure children really are secure in their spelling. Children often do really well in a spell check but then spell them incorrectly when writing.
