Reopening

Welcome back It will be lovely to see your children, I have missed them all.

Many may feel anxious as we move into another new way of working.

Over this period of time children have experienced a lot of different emotions, we are aware of this and will be supporting them as they transition back into school.

School Leaders have been, working hard to ensure that all plans to re-open school is guided by ALL the lasted guidance.

Then all documentation was submitted to Rochdale Borough Council, to be checked/amended before finally being passed for school to open safely.

The government have said:

“We know that, unlike older children and adults, early years and primary age children cannot be expected to remain 2 metres apart from each other and staff.� DFE All procedures we put in place have been designed to help us, work together to mitigate risk as much as possible whilst welcoming and reassuring our lovely children back.

Fire Procedures remain as pre-COVID All children and adults will leave via the nearest, where they will be escorted to the rear yard and line up in the usual manner. PEEP plans will remain in place and followed (pre-Covid).

There will always be key fire marshals in all teaching areas of the building. SLT will continue to sweep the school.

Year groups have staggered entry and exit times Children will have staggered start times and exit times to reduce the number of adults on the school grounds.

Main Front Entrance All non essential visitors will be advised to use other means of communication.

Here at Shawclough the term Bubble/Pod refers to a group of no more than 15 children supported by a restricted number of familiar adults.

First Aid General first aid – remains pre-Covid e.g first aid kits (which include anti wipes/ gloves) in every teaching area. We have an above average number of pediatric first aiders on site (compared to similar schools).

First Aid Bay We have created a temporary First Aid Bay. Mr Rushton (a certified first aid with pediatric) or another first aider will staff during the teaching day. The First Aid Bay has all its own equipment including PPE.

Procedure for suspected Covid: Should a child display symptoms associated with COVID : !

The Child will be given mask, sat on a plastic chair in First Aid Bay.

Mr Rushton will kit himself up in the appropriate PPE.

The child’s temperature will be take and a decision will be made to phone parents.

!

Parents have told of school’s expectation immediate collection and removal of child and siblings.

!

Parents will receive testing and medical advice letter.

!

Other parents from the pod will receive a text message advising them of the situation.

Pod will be closed (for 14 days) if the individual child’s result is positive.

School will also contact infectioncontroldutydesk@rochdale.gov.uk as appropriate.

First Aid Bay

Procedure for suspected Covid:

Should a member of staff (from within the Bubble) show symptons associated with COVID A text will be sent out to parents explaining that Bubble adults have been advised to be tested. The Pod will remain closed until the member of staff has received their results.

School will also contact infectioncontroldutydesk@rochdale.gov.uk as appropriate.

Kitchen !

The school kitchen remains out of bounds to all unauthorised staff.

Anyone needing to talk to members of the kitchen team will need to remain behind the hatch.

School will serving sandwiches only.

Toilets The toilets have been allocated to each year group with only one children from any bubble to be allowed to go at any one time.

Disinfecting

All teaching areas are required to carry out disinfecting tasks at regular times throughout the day. Schools adults complete a checklist which is returned to school leaders.

At Shawclough we pride ourselves on our systems and support we are able to provide for children. The same procedures remain in place‌. Report any concerns straight away (pre-Covid procedures).

Classroom layouts ( there will be no sharing resources unless disinfected e.g no dictionaries, no reading books, no children handing work out, children self mark, work to staff in children’s trays). All soft toys/reading books etc have been removed.

Behaviour Policy Rewards (this is part of the amendment to our original policy) Children, will be given praise and stickers as rewards. Teachers and Teaching Assistants welcome opportunities to praise individuals for good work, attitude or good behaviour, and show recognition, if these are brought to their attention. Above all praise and encouragement should be used as much as possible.

Walking through school to show their work to the Head Teacher or other adult for acknowledgement and praise during this time will not be permitted, however teachers will be holding celebration assemblies each week. Teachers may choose to adapt strategies like star of the day.

Behaviour Policy

Behaviour in school (this is part of the amendment to our original policy) If a child’s behaviour is deemed high risk, for example, refusing to adhere to safety measures, such as, hand washing, social distancing, remaining in their pods or deliberate behaviours that put themselves or others at risk, such as spitting or deliberately coughing at people. The following sanctions and disciplinary procedures could be used: • Conversation(s) with pupil(s) which could include a verbal warning, moving seats if logistically possible and other behaviour management strategies in line with our current behaviour policy.

• Once all appropriate behaviour management strategies have been exhausted, contact should be made with pupil’s parent/carer.

• If the health and safety of other pupils and staff members are put at risk by the pupils not adhering to social distancing measures, then the parent/carer will be expected to collect the pupil and a fixed term exclusion will be applied in line with Exclusion guidance.
