Our amazing piece of cover artwork is by Year 11 student Chloe Artingstall. Chloe has had a piece of her work chosen to be exhibited in ‘Atmosphere’, an open exhibition of local artists’ work at the ‘Gallery Upstairs’ in Upton Country Park. It is wonderful to see one of our GCSE students taking the initiative to get their work seen and being rewarded by gaining local recognition. There is still time to see the exhibition which ends on December 20th We hope you enjoy reading this edition and wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

MATHS CHALLENGE! All A-Level Maths students took part in the Senior Maths Challenge. There were some great scores with five students qualifying for the next round, however the biggest well done goes to Alex Marchant who achieved a merit in the second round - placing him within the top 2% of all ALevel Maths students across the country!

Employer Breakfast

We were delighted to host our second 'Employer Breakfast' networking event this morning. Duncan Newman from BCP Council's Economic Development team, was our key note speaker. It was great to have local employers come in to find out about how they can support our students.

Poole High Sixth Form is the only post-16 provider in Dorset to be offering T Levels in Finance and in Accounting to students wanting to embark on a course that involves learning in the classroom and in a work placement.

This year our T Level students have already completed workshops with JP Morgan, visited KPMG and also had a fascintating talk from Oscar Hjalmas from Bagette & Company Wealth Management on sustainable investing T Levels are equivalent to 3 A Levels.

The 2-year qualification brings classroom and work placement together, on a course designed with employers and businesses You will complete a 45 day industry placement, undertaken as a block T Levels are ideal if you have completed your GCSEs and want to get the knowledge and experience needed to get a skilled job T Levels are worth UCAS points, a T Level Distinction* is the equivalent to 3 A-Levels at A* Visit poolehigh.co.uk/sixthform for more details

Please do also follow us on X @poolehighsport Rowing club course January 2024 Following the success of the first rowing club course. We would like to offer students the opportunity to enrol on the new course starting in January 2024. Coaches from Poole Rowing Club kindly come in and train students on the ego's.

Students are coached in rowing technique, fitness, strength and conditioning and safe, efficient technique. The course will last for 6 weeks when the coaches will give the students the opportunity to go out on the water as part of Poole Rowing Club, with the hope that the students will have found a sport that they would like to pursuit. If your child is interested please sign up in the Pe office, places are limited.

Climbing club course January 2024 We will be running a new climbing course in January.

This is free of charge but students will need to sign up on a first come first served basis in the PE department. Students must be willing to commit to the club to half term.

Swim training We have been working with PEDSSA and hope to host and participate in swimming galas in the New Year. We offer swim training on a Thursday 3-4pm. Students can come and participate in their own training or benefit from a guided session led by PE staff.

Basketball Club -Poole Piranhas We will continue to offer a paid basketball club run by Poole Piranhas on a Tuesday night open to year 7,8, & 9 pupils, sign up via online form. We also offer a free lunchtime club that anyone can attend and we will be running as year 10 squad training.

We Value We Inspire We Empower The High Performance (TASS) tier at Poole High School is a national accreditation aimed at aiding students pursuing professional sports careers while excelling academically.

Acknowledging the challenges young athletes face, our sixth form provides a tailored program to support both athletic and academic success. Currently assisting students in swimming and athletics at various competition levels, we welcome athletes from any sport.

As a Poole High School High Performance Student accessing TASS, you will gain the following provision: • Dual Career Mentoring – Additional support from a lead tutor to help you manage training and wellbeing alongside your academic studies.

• Access to a 6th form pathways progression tutor who will provide support and guidance on university and other study options alongside the network TASS the programme provides.

• Individual, personalised timetables – provision is in place to support the additional demands of high level training and long distance travel, taking into consideration the time commitment.

• Regular pastoral support from an experienced team • One to One tutorial sessions • Buddy system • Access to regular CPD workshops on nutrition/ lifestyle management/ sports psychology, wellbeing and time management.

• Use of facilities such as sports hall, fitness suite and swimming pool.

• Football/Netball/Rugby start W/C 8/1/23, all other clubs start W/C 15/1/23 • All clubs are free of charge unless stated with a * • Climbing and Rowing are free but you must sign up to the course, please see PE department- do not just turn up.

• All clubs run 3-4pm, unless stated.

• Just turn up to the sports hall changing rooms with your kit – please do get to the changing rooms as soon as possible.

• Lunch clubs from 1:25pm- you do not have to get changed, please bring a pair of trainers and shorts if more comfortable. You can bring your lunch to the sports hall and play.

• Sports teams will be selected from club nights.

PHS Netball Squads Clinch Silver and Soar to New Heights at PGL Liddington Adventure Weekend!

On Friday 3rd November 24 students from year 8/9/10 headed off to PGL Liddington for a weekend of netball and outdoor adventurous activities. The standard of netball played throughout the weekend was fantastic – we faced a number of schools from across the country who were also there for the weekend, and our Y8A and Y10A teams both came away with silver medals!!

The Y8A team final was a particularly thrilling match – our girls hadn’t lost a game all weekend, and lost by just 1 goal in extra time in the final! All the girls across our 3 teams played brilliantly and it was lovely to have a real squad spirit throughout the PHS camp. Lots of fun was had on the other activities throughout the weekend too, which including zip wires, vertical challenge, and a giant swing. The silent disco on the Saturday night was also a highlight with both students and staff dancing and singing their hearts out into the evening! All the students were a credit to the school and their families being model students and getting fully stuck in with all that was on offer throughout the weekend. We look forward to heading back to PGL Liddington for another weekend of netball, adventure and great fun next year!
