’s weekly message:

 Sports Day (am)

 Break up for half term

What a lovely week of sunshine we have had! This week, our Year 6 children have taken their SATs. They have worked so hard in the run up to this, and to see them filled with confidence and trying their best just filled us all with pride. I really couldn't have been prouder of them; they had the best attitudes and gave every test their all - coming in and leaving every day with a smile. Today, as part of Break the Rules day, Mrs Anderson-Mills, Mrs Robinson, Miss Harding and I decided to break a few rules of our own, and they have hopefully had a lovely treat day. Well done Year 6 - have a wonderful weekend and a good rest, you’ve earned it.

Next week, we welcome back Mrs Akinyemi from her maternity leave. She will be in school from the end of the week and will be familiarising herself with all of our classes again. As we move into the final half term, Mrs Akinyemi will be taking over some of the teacher release time in classes across school, and I’m sure enjoying getting to know everyone again. I would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Roberts who, during this time, has been acting Deputy Head. I am sure you will agree that she has been an excellent Deputy Head and I can’t thank her enough for all her hard work. Mrs Roberts will be continuing within the senior leadership of school, which was her role before; lucky for us!

Earlier in the week, I sent out a link for a survey that the Trust are conducting to gather feedback about school. This is a chance for you to share your views about school with Trust leaders, as well as provide feedback about the Trust itself. If you have any spare time, please do complete it.

Finally, on Friday, I am hopeful we will have sports day. Based on the terrible weather last year, we moved it forward to try and catch the good weather while it’s here. The arrangements are on the next page, so please do check which session you will be attending for your child. Miss Shirley has been working hard to organise traditional races and the children have thoroughly enjoyed practicing, so I know it will be a good morning for all. If the weather continues to be sunny (fingers crossed for no rain!), please ensure your child has a hat, suncream applied and a filled water bottle when they come to school.

I hope you all have a lovely sunny weekend and I’ll see you Monday. Mrs Quigley

The Picture News topic for next week is …

‘Can donating something important be a powerful way to show you care?’

A vehicle once used by Pope Francis to wave and greet people - called a popemobile - is being turned into a mobile health clinic for children in Gaza. Pope Francis, who recently passed away, was the head of the Catholic Church and often spoke about helping others. One of his final wishes was to help children affected by the conflict in Gaza. The vehicle will be refitted with medical equipment, as found in ambulances, so it can be used to aid children in areas where hospitals may be hard to reach. The project aims to deliver essential medical care to those who need it.

Things to talk about at home:

 What is your opinion of Pope Francis’s decision to donate the popemobile? Why do you believe he decided to do this?

 Have you ever donated something? Could it be harder to donate something that is important to you?

 Can you think of examples of different times when people might donate items to help others?

SPORTS DAY

Weather permitting, it will be our Sports Day on Friday 23 May. We will let you know via Seesaw if we have to cancel Sports Day for any reason (if it is cancelled, we will let you know as soon as the decision is made so if you don’t hear from us, it is still taking place). It is important that you keep an eye on Seesaw messages as each year we receive lots of calls asking for information that we don’t have so please DO NOT ring school in the morning to ask for an update. Don’t forget to arrange to pass on the information to anyone who does not have access to Seesaw. It will be a traditional style of Sports Day with sprints, egg and spoon race etc.

IMPORTANT: Children MUST wear their full PE kit (plain white, round necked t-shirt, black shorts or skort) with BLACK OR WHITE TRAINERS (not slip on pumps, pumps with Velcro fasteners would be ok) they will be unable to take part without them. Depending on the weather, children will also need NAMED sun hats and water bottles - if needed, please apply sun cream at home in the morning.

Early Years/KS1 (Reception, Year 1, Year 2) The KS1 gate will be open from 9.05 am until shortly before 9.15 am (for safeguarding reasons, parents are unable to stay on the playground at drop off).

The Early Years/KS1 Sports Day will start at 9.15 am and will end by 10.15 am. Parents and carers are welcome to come along to watch but please arrive promptly as the gate will be locked again before the races begin. The KS1 gate will be opened at the end of the event to allow any parents who do not need to stay for the KS2 event to leave.

KS2 (Years 3 - 6)

The KS1 gate will open at 10.15 am and will be shut shortly before the races start at 10.30 am. It is expected that we will finish by 11.30 am. Parents and carers are welcome to come along to watch but please arrive promptly as the gate will be locked again before the races begin.

Please could we ask that parents/carers stay in the designated viewing area and not distract their children as they will be under the supervision of teaching staff and there are lots of races to get through! Thank you for your support!

PLEASE READ - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Please could we ask for your help to keep our children safe in the mornings - we are still finding that while families are waiting for the gates to open in the morning, children are running through and playing in the school car park.

Even though we have the barrier up, there are still occasions where staff or visitors will be accessing the car park or needing to reverse vehicles out of a parking space.

It is important for children to understand that it is never safe to play around cars, no matter where this is and ensuring that we are not giving them mixed messages. Please help us by not using the car park to cut through to the office and by keeping your children near to you if you are waiting for the gates to open.

The Tim Parry Recreation Ground is a safe place for children to play freely in the mornings and run off their excess energy before school and it is only a short walk to school for when the gates have opened. We would like to make sure that children are aware that car parks and roads are spaces where they need to be careful and alert to the potential dangers around them - we recently sent out Road Safety information on the Weekly Update - all previous updates are available on our website under the Parent/Carer Information tab and Weekly Updates.

Action Fraud Alert: rise of extortion phishing email reports

The reported phishing emails received by the National Cyber Security Centre’s SERS relate to a type of extortion referred to as ‘Financially Motivated Sexual Extortion’ (FMSE). Reports suggests the phrasing of the email and subject lines can vary, but the theme remains consistent: the phishing email claims to have installed malware on the recipient’s computer and recorded them visiting adult websites. The sender will then coerce the email recipient to pay a ransom demand by threatening to release the videos. The ransom is usually demanded in a form of cryptocurrency, such as Bitcoin.

In order to make these phishing attacks convincing, emails will often include genuine pieces of personal information relating to the victim, such as a password or home address. It is likely these would have been obtained from historic breaches of personal data.

Analysis shows that many people who received these emails also later reported becoming victims of online account hacking. In 2024, a male victim in his thirties received numerous extortion emails that contained a password he used for one of his online accounts. The emails demanded a ransom of $500. Having correctly identified the emails as a scam, he deleted them. However, shortly afterwards he noticed that he was unable to login to one of his social media accounts. After some checking, he realised that one of his bank accounts and multiple social media accounts had been hacked and he was locked out of them.

What to do if you receive an email like this:

 As with other phishing emails, do not to engage with the phisher, forward the email to report@phishing.gov.uk, which is the NCSC's Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS), and then delete it.

 If you are considering paying the Bitcoin ransom, you should be aware that doing so, you will likely become the target of more scams, as the phisher will know they have a ‘willing’ customer.

 The inclusion of genuine passwords or other personal information in phishing emails is a strong indication that you may have been affected by a historic data breach. You can use this service to check which of your online accounts were affected: https://haveibeenpwned.com

 If the phishing email includes a password you still use, then change it immediately. Advice on how to create suitable passwords and enable other factors of authentication is available here: https://stopthinkfraud.campaign.gov.uk/protect-yourself-from-fraud/protecting-against-onlinefraud/improve-your-password-security/

If you have been a victim of extortion, or concerned that someone may be in possession of intimate images of you, you should report it to your local police force by calling 101.

If you’ve lost money or provided financial information as a result of any phishing scam, notify your bank immediately and report it to Action Fraud at https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/report-phishing or by calling 0300 123 2040. In Scotland, call Police Scotland on 101.
