English: This half term we will begin by investigating how

people tell stories about another person through the use of biographies. We will be learning all about the titanic, so will be writing a diary entry as one of the passengers on board the Titanic as well as writing a non-chronological report about the ship when it sank sinking. The children will then write their own survival stories linked to the adventures in the Wizard of Oz.

Year 6 Half-term 2: ‘Wizard of Oz’ Science: In Science, we will be looking at electricity where we will begin with revision of simple circuits & then lots of hands-on experience with symbols, diagrams & incomplete circuits. The children will investigate the effect of the length of wire in a circuit, compare series & parallel circuits then face some Circuit Challenges!

Maths: In Maths we will be moving onto our first unit of Fractions. We will be Comparing fractions with different denominators and building our confidence on equivalence. We will also look at using the four operations in adding and subtracting fractions including those with mixed numbers as well as multiplying and dividing by fractions and integers.

Following fractions, we will spend the next unit working on converting measurements within the metric measurements and imperial systems. We will use this to calulate problems involving measures.

Art & Design: As artists we will be studying and analysing the work of William Morris. We will then be designing and making our own piece of art in his style.

Geography: We will be identifying different locations involving the trade.

Specifically looking into where different things come from, established trade routes. Answering questions such as why do people go on journeys and what is trade and how do things travel?

We will then focus on export and import and why countries share resources around the world. Specifically, we will focus on El Salvador and its supply chains while considering if everyone treated fairly when countries trade with each other.

Music: We will be learning the Ukelele with Mr. Mallon this term.

Building on last years learning, we will add to the bank of chords we already know to help us learn some more popular tunes.

Year 6 Half-term 2: ‘Wizard of Oz’ PSHE: Safety This half term, the children will be looking at different ways to stay safe both in the real world (Water safety) and online.

Computing: Unit 6.2 – In online safety, we will be looking at ways to use online devices safely, what responsible usage looks like and what to do if you have concerns.

PE: In P.E we will be focussing on target games with Mr Sharkey. We will also continue our learning on invasion games with Miss Vanroose
