History: This half term in history we will be studying Crime and Punishment. How punishment have changed over time and what have been the views of the various punishment. Over time, which main types of crime have been the most worrying?

Year 5 Spring 2/Half-term 4: ‘The Americas, materials and gourmet food’

English: This half term we will be looking at Science Fiction. We shall be reading Time Spinners by Roy Apps. We shall be comparing these with short science fiction clips from television. We shall be building our knowledge to write our own science fiction stories for a purpose audience.

Additionally, we shall be writing our own information booklets, linking to one of our Science topics, space.

Geography: We will be studying the Americas, identifying locations in different regions in America. Whilst also researching how the impact of tourism as affected Florida.

Science: This term we will be focusing on the changes between states of matter.

• Compare and group together everyday materials on the basis of their properties, including their hardness, solubility, transparency, conductivity (electrical and thermal), and response to magnets.

• Demonstrate that dissolving, mixing and changes of state are reversible changes.

Progressing onto the subject of ‘Animals including humans’

Music:

We will be continuing to use the Ukuleles, which will be taught by Mr Mallon. ​This will take place take place every Wednesday afternoon.

Computing:

This half term we shall continue using Purple Mash. Focussing on the Unit 5.5: Game creator. Aiming to create our own games with various levels, using coding.

Year 5 Spring 2/Half-term 4:

PE:

On Tuesdays we shall continue swimming at Leyland Swimming Baths. The children will be working on their survival skills.

‘The Americas, materials and gourmet food’

P.E will be continuing to on Thursday mornings. So please make sure you come in school, in your PE kits.

PSHE: Keeping & playing safely Overall, this half-term we shall be looking at ‘A world without judgement’. Learning and understanding the definitions and practicality of inclusion, acceptance and discrimination.

RE: Christianity

In RE, we shall return to looking at Christianity, Jesus.

Showing understanding of what a Miracle is and how this plays a part in Christian lives

Art & Design: As artists we have been be studying and analysing the work of Peter Thorpe. Creating opportunities to develop a painting from a drawing and to work with contrasting and complementing colours. As Chefs, we shall look at making healthy burgers. Designing and making a healthy burger with a side salad whilst using fair trade ingredients.
