Maths:
Addition and Subtraction (within 20)
Add by counting on, adding ones using number bonds, find and make number bonds, add by making 10, subtraction crossing and not crossing 10.
English:
This half term our English will focus on the Great Fire of London. We will be writing information texts about the Great Fire of London and writing poems about fireworks. We will also be growing beans and then writing the instructions on how to grow them.
Place Value (within 50)
Counting to 50 by making 10s, numbers to 50, counting forwards and backwards within 50, tens and ones, represent numbers to 50, one more and one less, compare objects and numbers within 50, count in 2s, count in 5s.
Year 1 Spring 2: ‘London’s Burning’
Length and Height
Compare lengths, compare heights, measuring lengths, introducing rulers, adding and subtracting, length problems.
Computing:
In computing, we will be using Purple Mash to create pictograms and will become Maze Explorers.
Science:
In Science, we will be looking at Plants. We will look at the parts of plants and then focusing on trees. We will be identifying different trees and learning why they are so important.
PE:
RE:
In RE will be looking at Judaism and be answering the question, ‘Why might some people put their trust in God?’

In PE this half term we have 1 session of PE on Monday with our P.E coach and 1 lesson on Tuesday with Mrs Pizzey.



History:
Throughout this term we will be looking at The Great Fire of London and recognise the distinction between past and present (within the context of the children’s lives). We will also learn to order and sequence some familiar events and objects. We will identify some similarities and differences between ways of life at different times and use sources to answer and ask simple questions about the past. We will also learn to retell simple historical stories about events in the past.
Music:
In Music, we will be learning ‘How Does Music help to understand our neighbours’ We will learn to combine pulse, rhythm and pitch.
Art & Design:
As artists, we will be inspired by painter Lieve Verschuier, famous for his paintings of the Great Fire of London. We will look carefully at the colour wheel and learn how to mix primary colours to create secondary colours.
PSHE:
In PSHE we will be learning about fire safety, helping the children understand the importance of being responsible, how their actions can affect others, and how to stay safe in the home and community
