Maths: Addition and Subtraction (within 10) This half-term, we will read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving addition, subtraction and the equals sign. We will also represent and use number bonds and related subtraction facts within 10, while using concrete objects and pictorial representations to solve missing number problems. Shape We will begin to recognise and name common 2-D shapes; rectangles (including squares), circles and triangles, before naming common 3-D shapes, including cuboids (including cubes), pyramids and spheres. RE: In RE will be looking at Christianity. Our big question will be, ‘Why is Jesus special to Christians?’.

Science: In Science, we will be looking at materials. We will explore different objects and materials and then carrying out different investigations including, melting and freezing, floating and sinking and if materials can absorb water.

Year 1 Autumn 2: ‘Happy Feet’ Geography: We will use globes and atlases to name and locate the 7 continents of our world. We will also be focusing on The Artic and how it is different to the UK.

English: This half term we will be enjoying the book, ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. Lost and Found is a heartfelt story about a boy who finds a penguin on his doorstep and tries to return him to where he belongs. The children will write their own version of Lost and Found. We will also be producing non-chronological reports on Penguins.
