Y1 Aut 2 Curr Overview

Maths: Addition and subtraction (within 10) Read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving addition, subtraction and equals sign.

Represent and use number bonds and related subtraction facts within 10.

Solve one step problems that involve addition and subtraction, using concrete objects and pictorial representations and missing number problems.

Shape Recognise and name common 2-D shapes, including rectangles (including squares), circles and triangles. Recognise and name common 3-D shapes, including cuboids (including cubes), pyramids and spheres.

RE: In RE will be looking at Christianity (Jesus) and be answering the question, ‘Why is Jesus special to Christians?’.

English: This half term we will be enjoying the book, ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. Lost and Found is a heartfelt story about a boy who finds a penguin on his doorstep and tries to return him to where he belongs. The children will write their own version of Lost and Found. We will also be producing non-chronological reports on Penguins.

Year 1 Half-term 2: ‘Winter Wonderland’

Science: In Science, we will be looking at Animals and Humans. We will learn to name and identify common animals and their features. We will look at the differences between carnivores, omnivores and herbivores. We will also look at the human body and name, draw and identify the different parts.

PE: In PE this half term we have 2 sessions of PE. One lead by Mrs Wilson on Tuesday and one lead by our PE Coach on Friday.

Computing: In computing, we will be using Purple Mash to create a pictogram and become Lego Builders!

History: Throughout this term we will be looking at changes within living memory. We will be looking in detail at changes in toys, and changes in ccommunication. We will be developing our understanding of chronology of the past by identifying different sources and identifying similarities and differences between ways of life in different periods.

PSHE We will be learning to tie our shoelaces!

The children will have lots of practise tying their shoelaces and the shoelaces of others to develop their independence! We will also continue to look at different emotions.

Art & Design and Design Technology: As artists, we will be inspired by sculptor Tracy Emin to create our own sculptures of penguins using clay. We will begin by sketching and drawing penguins, looking carefully at what colours we are using. We will then look at developing our skills using clay, moulding the clay in a shape.

In DT we will be designing and creating our own Christmas Eve sacks.

Geography: We will use globes and atlases to name and locate the 7 continents of our world. We will also be identifying hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the North and South Poles.

Music: In Music, we will be learning ‘How Does Music Tell Us Stories About The Past?’.

We will be looking at a range of music including orchestral music and a range of nursery rhymes.
