Mathematics:

Number

Literacy

We will be writing speech bubbles and simple instructions. We will learn to orally sequence a story and begin to use simple story language. We will begin to write short sentences using sounds that we know using a capital letter and a full stop.

This half term we will be continuing to look at how we Order numbers and the composition of numbers 7 and 8. We will begin to explore doubles and sort numbers into odd and even.

Measure, Shape and Spatial Thinking.

This half term is all about 3D shape as we recognise, name and find 3D shapes within our environment. We will also build on our understanding of time by looking at how we have changed over time and the days of the week.

Personal Social and Emotional Development

This half term we are going to be talking about factors which effect our health and wellbeing, such as healthy eating and physical activity. We will also be highlighting the importance of eating a balanced diet, including eating plenty of fruit and vegetables.

Reception – Spring 2

Phonics

We will continue our Phase 3 phonics. We will continue blend our sounds into short words which use sounds that we know. We will begin to learn some Phase 3 Tricky Words.

Communication and Language

This half term, we will be using our language to help us work out solutions to problems and organise our thinking. We will listen to, talk about and retell stories and build upon new vocabulary which we can use in different contexts.

Physical Development

In PE, we will be working with West Lancashire Sports Partnership to develop fundamental skills and movements. Within the classroom, we will be continuing to develop our handwriting grip and develop speed and accuracy in our writing. As the weather improves, we will spend more time outside managing large items as a team.

Understanding Our World

Expressive Arts and Design

Our artist for this half term is Giuseppe Arcimboldo. We will be looking at his work and recreating some of his techniques. We will also have lots of opportunities to paint and create freely within provision, expressing our ideas and feelings through different media including printing with natural resources. As part of our healthy eating, we will also be designing a healthy lunch box with foods that are good for us.

This half term our work is all about materials as we continue to explore natural materials and how we can use them for different purposes. We will also be looking at plants and growing. We will be using our senses in hands on exploration of natural materials. We will explore different types of bulbs and seeds and have a go at planting our own seeds. We will begin to understand how to care for plants and the natural environment.
