Dear Parents and Governors, I am writing to you at the end of the year to give you a few final pieces of information as well as the latest news. SATs Results We are very pleased to tell you about our Year 6 SATs results for 2019: Reading – 86% Writing – 86% Maths – 86% Combined 86% We are delighted that our combined percentage (children achieving Reading, Writing and Maths at age expected or better) was 17% up on last year and 21% better than children achieved Nationally. We were also very pleased that a high percentage of our children have achieved at ‘Greater depth’, with a scaled score of 110 or more, showing that we are challenging all of our children. This is definitely to be celebrated! Well done to all of our Year 6 children, the progress you have made and your great levels of attainment are testament to your hard work and dedication. We wish you good luck as you move to the next stage of your lives. Butterfly Class Production th Butterfly Class production will take place on Tuesday 16 July at 1:30pm and again 7pm in the school hall. The PTA will once again be providing refreshments at this event. Year 6 Leavers’ Service Year 6 Leavers’ Service will take place at 9:30am at St Mary Magdalene Church on Thursday 18 July. All family and friends are welcome. Year 6 PTA Leavers’ Lunch Once again the PTA will be providing a Leavers’ Lunch for Year 6 children and staff. This is a chance for the children and staff to get together to say a final goodbye to each other.
Uniform Please check the school website for the requirements for school uniform. We have noticed an increase in the number of children wearing trainers and footwear that is not in line with the school’s policy on school uniform. In September, we expect to see all children in the correct uniform, including school shoes please.
Please refer to the school uniform list and ordering information that was sent out to you earlier this term. or look on the school website. There is still time to order your uniform from School Trends. Order before 31 July 2019 and get your order delivered to your home.
School Book Bags Due to space issues we must insist that children’s bags should be no larger than the regulation red dispatch bags sold from the office. If your child already has a rucksack we respectfully ask that when it needs changing, you change it for a red school dispatch bag. These can be purchased from the office at £5.25 per bag. Attendance Please be aware of the importance of good attendance and punctuality for your children. We would like to point out now, in advance that holidays, or day trips (for birthdays etc) will not be authorised and in some cases will be subject to a fine in line with DfE directives. Good attendance and punctuality are vital to ensure there are no gaps in the children’s learning. The expectation is that children are in school for at least 97% of the school year. Persistent lateness is considered as much of a problem as absence. This is a factor that the School Liaison Officer assesses along with patterns of absence, including repeated Monday and Friday absences. The expectation is that every child is in school, on time, all of the time, unless there is an illness or unavoidable appointment for the child to attend. Teaching our children about punctuality is very important. Being at school on time in the morning, as well as being on time for the pick up at the end of the day, enables children to understand the value of being on time, which will set them up for their future in the work place as well as feeling safe and secure. It is imperative that you pick your child up on time. Waiting for a parent who is late is very stressful for the child and also can cause difficulties with staff needing to leave at the end of their shift or needing to attend meetings/training after school. Of course if you are unavoidably delayed and you anticipate that you are going to be a few minutes late for your child, please do ring the office to let us know , and we will of course keep your child until you arrive.
Staffing Teaching Staff for next year will remain the same for each class, until Miss Handley goes on maternity leave. We will of course let you know once we have made an appointment to cover her leave. Support Staff will be allocated to classrooms according to their expertise and experience in each Key Stage. I have to inform you that Miss Corfmat will be leaving us a th Monkton on Thursday the 18 July. We will be sad to see her move on, but wish her all the very best luck and happiness in this new chapter of her life. We have appointed a replacement for Miss Corfmat, Mrs Anna Weston will be joining us in September and will be working predominately in Class 4. We look forward to welcoming her to our team. We thank Miss Corfmat for all her hard work and dedication during her years with us.
