Lomeshaye Life Welcome back to school and a very happy New Year to everyone! A huge well done to everyone that attended school over the last week, where our whole school attendance figure was 96.2%. Congratulations to everyone that got to school this week and long may our great attendance continue. Cinderella Performance at Blackburn—during the final week of the last half term our Learning Leaves pupils went to see a fantastic production of the fairy tale Cinderella. This was a fabulous trip as the children had been learning this fairy tale in their English lessons and had worked with our creative partner, Nicole, to develop their speaking, listening and writing skills. Towards the end of the show one of our pupils, Daood, was asked to join the actors on stage to take part in a special dance. What a wonderful trip! Fantastic Musicians— Over the Christmas holiday three of our pupils received a special Blue Peter badge for their contribution to music at Lomeshaye Junior School. The three students, Noor Iman, Anmol Shazadhi and Hadia Khan from Year 6, were the first pupils at our school to be awarded this prestigious prize which involved them having to write a two page application demonstrating their commitment to music at our school. A huge congratulations to these three girls, and Mrs Brunton, for their great work. Gold Rights Respecting Schools Award— Even more good news, just before we broke up for Christmas we were visited by Martin Russell, a Rights Respecting School assessor, who came to make a judgement as to whether we could be awarded the Gold Rights Respecting School Award. Martin was so impressed with our schools knowledge and commitment to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and Sustainable Development Goals that he has commended us for our great work and awarded us the GOLD standard. An enormous “well done” goes to all of the pupils, staff, families and governors that have made this happen and a big “thanks” goes to Mr Switzer for his organisation and leadership in this area. Goodbye and Good luck— to Mr Switzer, who is going to be leaving our school over the next two terms to go to work in another local school that are in need of his help. Mr Switzer will be moving on to a Deputy Headteacher’s position where we wish him the best of luck for all that he is involved with while he is away. In Mr Switzer’s absence we will have another experienced class teacher employed at the school, Mrs Strong, who we will welcome next week.
