Lomeshaye Life It has been another outstanding week at Lomeshaye Junior School, children have been taking part in exciting work with the Police Cadets and a special visitor came to school to see pupils learning about the Maya civilization. Why not have a read on to find out some more? Well done to everyone that attended school over the last week, where our whole school attendance figure was 95.6%. Sadly, this was just below our whole school target and so it was a little disappointing. I do know that we are hitting our winter “bug” season, so keeping your hands clean and being extremely careful if you have a cough or a sniffle is very important. Let’s hope that next week our attendance starts to improve. School Councillors visited Town Hall—Last week was Parliament Week. A week where children in schools up and down the country can do lots of wonderful activities to find out about Parliament and perhaps learn about some different jobs that they could do in the future. Members of our School Council were very lucky to be invited to the Town Hall in Nelson to meet some of the people who work there. It was a great and inspirational session. Mayor of Pendle to visit school— On Wednesday, last week, the Mayor of Pendle came to school to give an assembly. The Mayor of Pendle, Councillor Ken Hartley, passed on his thanks for the excellent experience he had at our school during the Mayoral Roadshow. He felt the discipline of the pupils and their attention span was excellent and he enjoyed their unique questions. Well done Lomeshaye! Police Cadets— Our Year 6 Police Cadets continued their training last week with lots of team building games in our sports hall.
Dr Dianne Davies visited Year 6— All of our Year 6 cohort had the privilege of working alongside a real archaeologist on Friday. Dr Dianne Davies came to visit us to speak with the children about her adventures and learning about the Maya civilization. She brought many artefacts for the pupils to look at and touch and shared some fascinating stories from her travels.
